Opinions on the name Lynne?
Not pregnant, just discussing future baby names with a friend and got a very funny look when I said this one so decided to see what the MN consensus was!

Nothing wrong with Lynne but it is very dated.

There's nothing wrong with it - well slightly short and plain maybe, but it does seem a bit dated at the moment. I am sure it will come around again.

I actually prefer Linda, considered even more dated as it was popular before Lynne was, but objectively a very pretty name (and of course it does mean 'pretty' in Spanish).

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/04/2018 09:07

I do like Valerie, much nicer !

Pasdeprobleme · 21/04/2018 09:10

I know loads of Lynnes, all 60+.
It’s a bit plain but better than a lot of names that are popular on here eg Ivy, Violet, Elsie, Mabel which I don’t like at all.

Maybe Lyn(n) is due a resurgence. It's unfussy.

I heard a young woman calling over her little girl, "Tracy!" the other day; now that seemed retro.

memaymamo · 21/04/2018 09:31

There's a fine line between 'dated' and 'vintage chic'. Lynne is on the wrong side of that line but she'll probably have her moment in 10-20 years or so.

hopefullhelpful · 21/04/2018 09:32

Both my mum and MIL are Lynns. Smart, lovely capable women who are still very energetic in their 70s.
I think it's time Lynn had a resurgence!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/04/2018 11:53

Why would you? It's as bad as Carol, Ann, Jackie.

AnaChocolatte · 21/04/2018 13:51

Linnea - Lin for short? Then it has a modern Scandinavian chic whilst still being called Lin.

I actually like Lin, it's nice and crisp sounding.

TempsPerdu · 21/04/2018 17:45

It’s very dated and not ready for a comeback yet - maybe in a decade or so. I like Linnea and Linnet though (although the latter would probably be confused with Lynette).

Popadoodledoo · 21/04/2018 17:50

Don't like it sorry. My nans a lynn. I love her dearly. But she can be a gossip and a total bitch at times. Not many family mrmbers speak to her now because shes a trouble causer.

She also over dramatic. Anything you have, she has.

Lol i love her tho.
