Opinions on the name Lynne?
Not pregnant, just discussing future baby names with a friend and got a very funny look when I said this one so decided to see what the MN consensus was!

IAmMatty · 20/04/2018 21:35

It's the Magnolia of names Confused

JollyGiraffe · 20/04/2018 21:36

I know one in their early 20s, and one in their 30s.

Both lovely!

One is Scottish, one is Irish.

I think it's a lovely name

ThunderR0ad78 · 20/04/2018 21:51

I thought it was fag ash Lil!!?!!

bonnielassie1 · 20/04/2018 21:53

That’s my name and I love it! Im 23 Grin

RedDwarves · 20/04/2018 21:55

Lynn(e)s are only ever over 50, have "can I talk to the manager haircuts", are permanently dieting, and work in the local bank.

So, no.

ByAllMeansMoveAtAGlacialPace · 20/04/2018 21:55

Lynette!

ShackUp · 20/04/2018 22:01

'Oh look it's the fat envelope...not you, Lynn.'

Yep sorry OP it's Alan Partridge for me too. Although I would have fun dressing baby Lynne up in jazzy sweaters Grin

pepperpop · 20/04/2018 22:08

I don't think it's horrible but it's about as bland as a name can be!

trueblueari · 20/04/2018 22:08

@koalab for what it's worth I love it! I think it looks pretty written down and sounds nice spoken. It seems a lot of people are basing their negative perceptions of it on people they know - which I'm guilty of doing with other names. You have a beautiful name Smile

I don’t mind it. But then I was wondering earlier whether Michelle would be ok to use so maybe my judgement is off 🤷🏻‍♀️

Colonelpopcorn · 20/04/2018 22:10

Lynne is ok, if the female it belongs to is born around the age of 50.
For a newborn, no!

Thiswayorthatway · 20/04/2018 22:18

Good for you OP, Dcousin is Lynne, kind and funny mid-30's lady, lovely name which suits her, none of the terrible stereotypes referred to here.

PinkCalluna · 20/04/2018 22:22

I’m quite surprised at all the Lynn hate.

I know quite a few adult Lynn, Lyn, Lynne, and Linns. I’ve always though it was a pretty name.

Justnapping · 20/04/2018 22:26

She will be the only Lynne in her class

BringMeCoffeePlease · 20/04/2018 22:37

No way. All the Lynns I’ve known have been horrible.

LastNightsMakeUp · 20/04/2018 22:53

MIL is Lynn, hates her name and always has. I'm not fond of the name personally either.

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2018 22:57

Nope. I have an unusually strong reaction to this name because I've known two who were really unpleasant. Both would be in their 50s or 60s now.

chezmk1988 · 20/04/2018 23:13

Definitely not.

wooster16 · 20/04/2018 23:15

Not a bad name at all, I don’t understand the hate. Think it’s just ‘of a time’ in the same vein as Valerie, Sheila, Lorraine etc.

Stinkbomb · 20/04/2018 23:18

I know a few Lynne/Lynn's and they are all really nice people.
Name association, if it's not related to people that you have any experience or involvement with is surely irrelevant?

Phase84 · 20/04/2018 23:20

I don't think its that bad. The more i say it the more i think it is pretty. The Lyns i know are lovely.

trueblueari · 20/04/2018 23:21

Wooster I also really like Valerie! Maybe I just have strange taste. DD (4) has an unusual name that my stepmother said sounds "vintage". Hmm.. so maybe Lynne would go well with her name!

BakedBeans47 · 20/04/2018 23:22

There’s a Lynn in my son’s class, they’re 9. Not a common name at all these days.

I’m not keen I think it’s very dull.

IVflytrap · 20/04/2018 23:24

Oh I love Valerie! It's definitely due a comeback.

Some of the comments on Lynne as a name have surprised me, fwiw. I would have said it was a fairly innocuous name for most people. Confused
