I love Norah and Dorothy (DD's MN)

Also really like Hazel and Audrey

Kinda like alma and Frida too

Smoliver · 30/03/2018 22:37

I work in a shop that (mostly) has older ladies shop there and I've definitely seen all of these names in there. Grin That's not to say that I don't think they aren't due a comeback.

I like quite a few of these names, definitely think they're due a comeback. I know a couple of a young girls named Hazel already.

I love Alma, Audrey and Dorothy. Norah, Rita and Sylvia are nice too Smile

OverTheMountain42 · 30/03/2018 22:38

DS aged 4 has two friends the same age as him called Dorothy and Hazel. We know another Dorothy who is 6. I think both of those have made a come back.

Luckingfovely · 30/03/2018 22:39

Marion, Dorothy, Norah all lovely I think and deserve revisiting

SuperBeagle · 30/03/2018 22:41

Don't like (and don't think are remotely ready for a comeback):

  • Irene
  • Alma
  • Marion (Marianne is better)
  • Peggy
  • Dorothy
  • Sylvia

I think they're all awful and out of fashion for a reason, honestly.

Don't mind and may be ready for a comeback/aren't in need of a comeback:

  • Vera
  • June
  • Frida (not in need of a comeback as it was never overly popular in the past)
  • Norah (see above)
  • Audrey (very popular at the moment in Australia)
  • Rita (see Frida/Norah)
  • Hazel
Greenhouseonthehill · 30/03/2018 22:42

I know little Dorothy, Rita, Hazels (a few actually), Peggy, Frida and Sylvia.

I like Frida best.

tvhearts · 30/03/2018 22:44

The only. Name I like there is Peggy x

Cirrys · 30/03/2018 22:45

I like Irene, June, Frida and Sylvia. Irene with the emphasis on the second syllable though - i-REE-ne. Also heard it pronounced i-Ree-Nee.

hotstepper4 · 30/03/2018 22:45

Reminds me of Corrie in the 80's!

😁

Alma is nice.

Tinymum85 · 30/03/2018 22:46

Love the name hazel. The main thing is that you like the name, people will grow to love it 😊

tvhearts · 30/03/2018 22:48

Sorry but definitely do not like Irene

DramaAlpaca · 30/03/2018 22:49

I like Dorothy, Audrey, Sylvia & Hazel.

The rest of the list I don't like at all.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/03/2018 22:50

Dorothy is already making a comeback.
Don't you just picture a little girl with rosy cheeks and blue eyes and curly jet black hair.
I also like
Vera,
Peggy.
I like Sylvie rather than Sylvia.
I love Frida My nan was a Frida (Freda) short for Winifred.
I think Irene would be very cool and chic on a baby, now
Other names that are due a come back
Josie
Patsy
Winnie
Mary
Maude
Laura

SleepingStandingUp · 30/03/2018 22:52

PinkAvocado · 30/03/2018 22:58

chezmk1988 · 30/03/2018 23:12

Irene- I like it, was also one of my grandmas names

Alma- love it and was on my list but there's a pub near me called The Alma

Marion- another name of my other grandma and love it. Had mixed reactions on here when I asked. What about Marianne?

Vera- quite like it

Peggy- no

June- not my cup of tea

Frida-no

Dorothy- like but don't like Dottie.

Norah- love

Audrey- love

Sylvia- like

Rita- no

Hazel- nut?

Ploppymoodypants · 30/03/2018 23:25

Sylvia already making a big comeback. I know 3 under 2 years old.

Also Dorothy shortened to Dotty a lot or one I know as Thea.

I LOVE Audrey and wanted it by DH Hayes it. Also due a come back I think.

As a rough rule of thumb, names belonging to current Middle Aged people are seen as naff and dated (think Gary, Paul, Dave for boys and say Pauline, Sue, Liz for women), but once they get to sweet old nana and grandpa age (or possibly departed) then they remind the child bearing generation of their sage happy childhoods with lovely grandparents so they become fashionable again.

Hence why in the late 1990’s all the Victorian names came back big time (Millie, Ellie, Alfie, Freddie, Charlie) and took over from all the Darrens, Marks, claire’s and Rebecca’s of the 1980’s. Now that time has moved on and we have a new generation of grandparents I predict we will see a rise in popularity of things like Valerie and Susan.

AnyaMoondial · 30/03/2018 23:44

I really love Audrey, Sylvia, Frida and Hazel. I know two Hazels under 2yo so that's definitely already on the way back up.

Also adore Mabel.

NannyR · 30/03/2018 23:48

I like Norah and Hazel.

Cindie943811A · 30/03/2018 23:52

Norah reminds me of gnaw a bone
Peggy is a nickname for Margaret
I feel Rita hs a very harsh sound to it.
Audrey, Sylvia, Hazel and Dorothy are pleasant names.

TroubledLichen · 30/03/2018 23:56

Love Alma! June and Norah are also nice. The others aren’t really to my taste.

myrtleWilson · 30/03/2018 23:58

I like them all (probably least keen on Alma) and would add in Jean and Joan as other names of similar vibe and second Mabel from anya

Katjolo · 30/03/2018 23:58

Love Sylvia.

RestingButchFace · 30/03/2018 23:59

Wow I struggled there to find a name I liked apart from Norah and Hazel. Too Granny try hard for me.
