Thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mookie81 · 18/03/2018 17:48

Sea witch.
She would certainly be a 'poor unfortunate soul' if you give her that name!

SumAndSubstance · 18/03/2018 18:48

I don’t mind it, but I do only know Catholic or German (or Catholic and German) Ursulas. Don’t know if that matters!

MikeUniformMike · 18/03/2018 18:50

I'd say no although I like it. It will get pronounced as Urshela which is awful. Urs-u-la is fine. Middle name perhaps?

greenlavender · 18/03/2018 18:54

I love it too. Was on my list, but had DS.

MrsEricBana · 18/03/2018 19:00

I like it too - little bear. Ursula & Teddy in Life After Life (Kate Atkinson).

UrgentExitRequired · 18/03/2018 19:01

It sounds evil to me, I really don't know why.

LastNightsMakeUp · 18/03/2018 19:04

My first thought was ‘the little mermaid’ my second thought is ‘that’s an awesome name!’

ibuiltahomeforyou · 18/03/2018 19:58

It makes me think of Life After Life, Ursula and Teddy in that book have a lovely sibling relationship

glitterbiscuits · 18/03/2018 20:07

Fantastic! Use it. An adult Ursula looked after my elderly relative. She was such a lovely person.

Farmerswife36 · 18/03/2018 20:13

Horrible horrible horrible makes me think of dark horrible dungeons and Count Dracula type things . I knew a Ursula who was a mortuary technician so maybe that's why I can't get past the name

Dontrocktheboat · 18/03/2018 21:21

I like it too, and the little bear meaning - especially after reading life after life by Kate Atkinson.

Only thing that would put me off is thinking that to anyone from Germany/ Austria it is probably like calling your baby Sharon or Lisa!

user1485182339 · 19/03/2018 11:41

I like it. The majority of people won't bat an eyelid. Easy to say and read and it travels well across Europe.

lovelsa · 19/03/2018 12:12

Not a fan. Sorry.

But names are SO subjective! If you love it, then go for it!

starkid · 19/03/2018 12:14

I think it's a great name, pretty cool.
Reminds me of the lady from George in the Jungle and of course Little Mermaid, but she's my favourite villain from Disney so whatever.

HolyGoats · 19/03/2018 12:15

I’m an Ursula! I loved it until I was 6 and that bloody Mermaid film came out. I have been Sula ever since (which is now an irritating elephant on Bing). I quite like my name and have never met another English Ursula.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/03/2018 16:00

I too know quite a few 50-60 year old German Ursula often nicknamed Ushi!

I'm not so keen on the English pronunciation.

chezmk1988 · 19/03/2018 17:06

What is the English pronunciation? I would pronounce it as URS-YOU-LA

OP posts:
n0ne · 19/03/2018 17:09

It was on my list but no-one liked it. I love the meaning.

MauriceTheSpaceCowboy · 19/03/2018 17:09

Usually UR-syoo-la.

Can be more like Ur-sha-la, or Oor-sha-la, if there’s a German or Irish sort of link.

Cloudwalk · 19/03/2018 17:19

My wonderful grandma was called Ursula (although she never used it and went by her middle name - Jean)

I think it's a wonderfully unique name! Bring it back!

HolyGoats · 19/03/2018 17:30

Omg cloudwalk are you my sister?! Incredible coincidence otherwise. I may just check what I’ve posted under this username......

user1485182339 · 19/03/2018 20:55

I really just want to know if cloudwalk and holygoats are siblings

RhinestoneCowgirl · 19/03/2018 20:58

Have a very dear friend called Ursula, it's a great name!

sanasa · 19/03/2018 21:02

I think of the little mermaid.
I know an Ursula - she fits the character of TLM to a T! Grin

NorthEndGal · 19/03/2018 21:04

It was number 2 on our list of girls names, and if my son had been a girl, he's have been Ursula ❤it's a beautiful , strong name for a fierce girl
