I’m not a fan - little mermaid definitely springs to mind

LynetteScavo · 18/03/2018 08:18

Everyone I've met called Ursula has been lovely- but it's an ugly name. It sounds like ulcer. Sad

jusdepamplemousse · 18/03/2018 08:21

Sea witch. Sorry, it’s just the immediate and pretty much only association. Shame as it might otherwise be ok, but it’s so strong a link it’d be tantamount to calling your kid Cruella or Scar Wink

Yogagirl123 · 18/03/2018 08:25

I like it, I have only known one Ursula, a German lady who was lovely.

LegoLady95 · 18/03/2018 08:30

I like it. I think of Ursula Andress before anything else.

Iggity · 18/03/2018 08:33

It’s my sister’s name. I think it’s lovely. I’ve only come across it a couple of other times: my Irish dentist (we are Irish also) and a German work colleague.

NannyR · 18/03/2018 08:40

I find it a very ugly, clunky sounding name - "urr" is the sound kids make when they don't like something. Also the sea witch connection.

GaraMedouar · 18/03/2018 08:41

Don’t like at all.

epicclusterfuck · 18/03/2018 09:43

I think it is a really good strong name and will be refreshingly different as PP said to all the twee flowery girl's names that are popular right now! I think though it depends on your own preferences as people obviously love or hate it!

Cosmoa · 18/03/2018 10:01

Don't like it atall. Plus I just think of the horrible witch in A Little Mermaid and Pheobes horrible twin on friends!

daisypond · 18/03/2018 11:12

I love it. Little Mermaid would never occur to me. My immediate thought is the main character from DH Lawrence's The Rainbow and Women In Love. A name that will last a lifetime, and neither boring or cutesy.

RavenWings · 18/03/2018 11:21

Immediately thought of the sea witch. I like fact that it isn't cutesy, but I just couldn't use it based on that.

HoratioNightboy · 18/03/2018 11:23

I quite like it and have known two in the past, but they both pronounced it differently. One was UR-sull-a, and the other URS-yoo-la. I prefer the first, but not sure how common the second one is.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/03/2018 11:24

Very harsh sounding.

DwangelaForever · 18/03/2018 11:26

I think if you are German and live in Germany is a lovely name.

Not so much a very nice UK name.

DwangelaForever · 18/03/2018 11:27

I suppose it's ok if you're Irish too

Hoppinggreen · 18/03/2018 11:28

A German/English relative is called this and she hates it.
I imagine someone quite large and clumsy when I think of that name (like a bear)

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/03/2018 11:28

I don't mind it, although our city had a convent school called Saint Ursulas so that's what I associate the name with.

NameChangeDestroyer · 18/03/2018 12:16

I'm in the minority but I think it's lovely

ChocolateCrunch · 18/03/2018 13:26

I quite like it - I know one who also has the nn Sula.

RainbowdropsandUnicorns · 18/03/2018 16:55

I like it.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 18/03/2018 17:36

I used to think if the sea witch (who has the best song in any Disney film!) but now I think of Ursula le Guin, the socialist/ feminist Sci Fi writer who recently died - a great association!

Twinkie1 · 18/03/2018 17:37

Fat Sea Witch

squoosh · 18/03/2018 17:38

It's kind of haughty sounding but in a good way. I can imagine her growing up to be a Morticia Addams style goth.

MammieBear · 18/03/2018 17:46

Makes me think of the little mermaid, cute meaning though...
