Love it! Gorgeous name. Totally agree of being bored with Ellas and Lilys, Ursula is so much better.

I love it and it’s in our family BUT from the child’s perspective might be a bit bothered by the sea witch. I know it’s crazy but Disney is pretty inescapable! But go for it if you love it. I came across the nickname Sula which I also think is lovely.

My Grandma's name. One of the kindest, most beautiful people I ever knew. Love it.

I like Ursula! I got bullied by one when I was 8/9 but it hasn't put me off the name. In fact, I've just named a domestic appliance Ursula. It growls.

I like Eric too so maybe! 😄

Is there a little mermaid thing going on round here at the moment?

Romilly sounds like the female version of the desert fox! 😂

Goes to show, what’s nice for one person isn’t for another - I’m still set on Ursula!

Hideous! How about Romilly, still a strong and unusual name?

my sister is an Ursula.
It is a fabulous name - I can't understand why there are such strong anti comments on here - it is just a name.
You should definitely put it on your list

Not a nice-sounding name imho. I’ve known four, all rather severe looking German or Swiss ladies in their sixties, so I have difficulty imagining it as a child’s name.

I love it! It’s top of our girls list. Mixed reactions and people do tend to mention the sea witch but we think of Le Guin and Andress and a few good book characters (life after life by Kate Atkinson). I’m also a bit swayed by it being so marmite but I think if it’s a girl we’ll go for it!

I don't like it. I agree with a PP that the "ur" sound is offputting as it's a sound of dislike so a bit like Yuckula or Bleurghula.

Yes I am a British Ursula! Does that make 3 on this thread? Smile

You take your chances with any name you give your child that they might hate it.

With the Mermaid film character, a couple of children have commented when they've seen the film that's all. Most people are imaginative enough to see me not a cartoon character.

The thing with marmite names is that the child might hate them....

Thanks everyone. It does seem a marmite name but as pp have said it's not often you hear of an Ursula and that may be because people hate the name but I'm sick of hearing about little ellas and lilys (no offence to those that have them. They are lovely names but so over used now) that I'm going to stick Ursula on my list. X

it's my middle name and I was never keen tbh but I am not sure anyone really likes their middle name.

Never had any adverse comments about it!

I think it's cute and due for an airing! I predict it will be the Eva of the 2020s :o

Another Ursula friend! Are you a British Ursula? I’ve never met another one apart from my DGM who only ever went by her middle name.

I love it too. My nickname for my husband is Bear so I loved the idea of having a little bear. Also I liked the Ursula Bear stories when I was little. Sadly I only have boys and Ursula wouldn’t have worked for them.

Another RL Ursula here! Not many of us around which I love. It's a marmite name granted - but I have had so many positive comments about my name since I was small.

I met a small one recently and it seemed like a breath of fresh air just to hear a different name.

It's a strong name compared to some very popular names but they aren't to my taste anyway. I guess it all comes down to that. If you like it, use it. There will always be people who love your name and people who don't no matter what you choose!

It's awful. So harsh and ugly. Sorry.

It reminds me of the sea witch in the Little Mermaid.

The English seem to pronounce it UR-syoo-la.

I know it as Oor-soo-la
