Think both are so pretty but can’t decide between the two! Which does everyone prefer?

I prefer Aurelia I think but both are pretty.

ReinettePompadour · 14/03/2018 18:31

Ottilie but I'm biased as I have one.

upsideup · 14/03/2018 18:33

Ottilie

whoareyoukidding · 14/03/2018 18:39

I've always loved Ottilie, it seems to suit a little girl and a grown woman.

ranoutofquinoa · 14/03/2018 18:50

I have an Aurelia be prepared for it to be pronounced in different ways and for the reference to Love Actually!

LoveInTokyo · 14/03/2018 18:51

Aurelia but I prefer Aurelie.

Don’t like Ottilie, sorry.

TroubledLichen · 14/03/2018 18:51

Ottilie! Definitely Ottilie.

bridgetreilly · 14/03/2018 18:59

Ottilie!

mojito55 · 14/03/2018 19:03

I love Ottilie, and the nickname Tilly

Chathamhouserules · 14/03/2018 19:04

I don't think either unless you are very arty and bohemian. But that's just my opinion. They are both pretty but hard to carry off I think, particularly in the teenage years.

Sparklesdontshine · 14/03/2018 19:04

How do you pronounce Aurelia?

pepperpop · 14/03/2018 19:17

Love both! I've always wanted Aurelie for a future DD, if I'm ever lucky enough to have one.

So I'd say Aurelia Smile

TatianaLarina · 14/03/2018 19:20

Aurelia and Aurelie.

Not feeling the Ottilie love.

penguinsandpandas · 14/03/2018 19:22

Aurelie, the other name makes me think of an otter.

FairyFantastic · 14/03/2018 19:23

DP says Aurelia, I agree. Ottilie I can imagine on a child but not an adult (for some reason)

penguinsandpandas · 14/03/2018 19:27

Just asked DS about Ottilie, he said he hadn't heard of it unless its an otters name but says he prefers that as he likes otters.

MaMisled · 14/03/2018 19:30

Aurelia

Lifeisshortbuytheshoes · 14/03/2018 19:32

Aurelia is very pretty. Also like Ariel, Aurora, Aurelie. Have never liked Ottilie.

Lupiform · 14/03/2018 19:33

Ottilie a thousand times. Aurelia is a bit frilly.

YellowFlipFlops · 14/03/2018 19:35

Aurelia. Not so keen on Ottilie, sorry.

daisypond · 14/03/2018 19:54

Ottilie will be pronounced in so many ways, so I wouldn't go there. I don't like the sound of it particularly, anyway. Where does the stress go? How many syllables? Four or three? I'm not keen on Aurelia either, although it's less Disney than names like Ariel and Aurora, to be fair. Aurelie doesn't work in English (orally). Aurelia is better than Ottilie.

HotCrossBun12 · 14/03/2018 19:55

The one that isn't Ottilie. Every time.

StupideSaucisse · 14/03/2018 20:01

Aurelia if I had a gun to my head. But tbh I don't like either. They sound super hoity-toity. Like something Hyacinth Bucket would choose.

But then again, I live in a town where a posh name like this would get you beaten up at school!

DollyDayScream · 14/03/2018 20:03

I'm really sorry, I almost never say anything negative about the choices of name.

BUT

Both of these names sound so try hard and pretentious. They are not pretty or unique. To me (and this is just me, a random on mumsnet), they sound as if you have avidly researched names that sound middle class, wealthy and horsey.

gingergenius · 14/03/2018 20:05

@DollyDayScream surely that would be more likely to be Araminta???
