Fallen out of love with my DC's name

I don't like it at all now, really.

DH does

I loved it when pregnant.

But did think when he was born that he didn't suit it much/I didn't like the sound of it.

But couldn't change it because DH and I had bonded over the name.

Anyone else feel the same way?

My friend recently went through this with her newborn and it really played on her mind and clouded her enjoyment of her new daughter. She contemplated changing it but her husband still loved it.
After a few weeks she said the feeling faded and she remembered why she loved the name in the beginning and is really happy she stuck with it.
She said giving the baby a cute nickname in the meantime helped.
Sometimes the name you’ve chosen can seem too grown up for the sweet little bubs in your arms and feel a bit alien to say at first.
I felt like that with my son’s name, and the hormone changes and sleep deprivation can make it seem worse.
Having said that if you’re adamant the name isn’t right, maybe bring it up with your husband saying it’s really bothering you. Loads of people change their baby’s names in the first weeks and months x

And has slept through from birth so definitely not sleep deprivation playing on me!

I think I've just fallen out of love but will have to put up with it.

Seriously though there are loads of threads on here from parents that have changed their baby’s names at almost a year old! 14 weeks isn’t too late if you’re really not happy.

You can change it up to a year old without issue.

Change it, if your husband is willing to be flexible. It's mad to keep a name you really dislike, and which your baby is too young to recognise, just because you feel you and your DH 'bonded' over it.

Change it before your baby recognises it!

Husband refuses to change it so that's not an option sadly

Is there a diminutive you could use that you like? I fell out of love with my DD name a bit when she was born due to its apparent popularity but I started to use a diminutive that I love whilst my partner mainly uses her full name. We are both happy with her name now and she answers to both her ‘proper’ name and diminutive. X

Hmmm it's pretty marmite, so I can see why you have gone off it.

But- it really is a great name. Easy to say and spell. Very different, but instantly recognisable to anyone. 'Cool', but also an ancient name with a great pedigree and famous owners of the name. Certainly not boring. In no way ever going to sound overused, but not made up or 'yooneeek'

So objectively, it's a really good choice! I like it a lot. Give it until he's a toddler and it will just be his name, rather then something you chose. I've actually slightly gone off several of the names we used and wouldn't use them now- but now the names are 'fixed' it doesn't seem to matter at all. A bit like- you don't really think about whether you like your partners name or not- it's just theirs.

Only V-painter name I can think of is Van Gough! Uncultured swine (me, not you!)

It's a lovely name OP - cool and classic at the same time. If your DH won't change then maybe you can come up with an unrelated nickname in the meantime?

If you’d called him something really popular you’d be fretting about why you hadn’t had the imagination to go with something else.

Some of my DC have names which were unusual when they were born but really common at nursery now. Not these names but names like Noah, Felicity, Lily.

People raised their eyebrows at the time which seems funny now.

But that's only because that generation aren't old enough to be CEOs yet. There will be, I guarantee you. And judging by when I had my son in fragrant north London, there will be an influx of high court judges called Poppy and Elsie and Mabel.

Really love the name, sorry you're having second thoughts but I think it's a good one. Less widely used but not quirky, slightly more traditional but not boring or stuffy.

It's a lovely name. I hope you grow to love it again.

You've made a great choice actually, decent nick names and a good solid, manly name, to wear for life.

I didn't like DS's name when I had him but sort of reluctantly agreed to it. I was a bit out of sorts at the time and someone in close family had just used my favourite name and I felt I then couldn't.
In the end I'm very glad DS has that name it suits him and he likes it as well.
