Fallen out of love with my DC's name

I don't like it at all now, really.

DH does

I loved it when pregnant.

But did think when he was born that he didn't suit it much/I didn't like the sound of it.

But couldn't change it because DH and I had bonded over the name.

Anyone else feel the same way?

It's a really beautiful name. Was on my list. Look up Vincent Perez (when he was young in the 90s) - one of the most handsome men. And live the Van Gogh connection. He will grow into it x

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 22/02/2018 22:34

I know someone who’s son was called Harvey, she changed it to Corey then back to Harvey 😒
Isn’t there a nickname you can use for him that you only can call him.

Tootsings · 22/02/2018 23:01

Thanks all; I will keep it as it is. Just hit me as too edgy today and then I started googling CEO's to see if there were any with that name Blush not that he has to be one! But want to give him the best and all that

Toss you tricked me! I googled the lyrics and ended up blubbering at them when the too beautiful for this world part came in Grin

Gorgeous name with awesome nicknames. Would he suit Vin (or Diesel if your tastes run to the unusual) while he’s so small

Snowbelled · 23/02/2018 07:00

Now I've worked out he's not called Elmo (I was very tired last night!) Love the name. But as others said wack in a good middle name and call him both to see what sticks.

Grin

Sleeping through the night from birth would have had my midwives and hv panicking. They are supposed to be wakened to feed at that age and it’s VERY VERY bad adviceto leave from for hours and hours.

Tootsings · 23/02/2018 13:19

Blue my Midwife was fine about it whilst home, and the midwives on the hospital ward were fine too.

His blood sugars and such have always came back very good and in his first week of life, he gained a little instead of even losing anything, and losing is normal after birthSmile

I suppose it's not all that important now though since he's 14 weeks. And if I were to have another, I doubt I'd get that lucky again anyway

That’s jus not true. Unless your definition of sleeps all night is somewhat fluid. It just isn’t true.

Bluedoglead · 23/02/2018 13:24

There is no midwife that would be happy with a newborn brand new right from the get on still in hospital newborn sleeping all night.

FeedtheTree · 23/02/2018 13:31

It's a great name. (He's my favourite artist.)

But maybe it works more for a boy than a baby. Just give him a cute nickname to see him through.

wilts09 · 23/02/2018 13:43

@Bluedoglead is she even asking for your opinion on this?!
Great name OP- maybe Vinny as a nn?

Bluedoglead · 23/02/2018 13:44

It’s just dangerous, on a parenting site, in my opinion, to have someone say their baby slept all night from the word go and the midwives in the hospital were fine with it.

wilts09 · 23/02/2018 13:48

@Bluedoglead If she's saying all is well and midwives are happy etc- who are you to say she's lying or the babe 'shouldn't' be doing this. Leave it be and try to not let it ruin your day Hmm

mimibunz · 23/02/2018 13:51

Velasquez?

mimibunz · 23/02/2018 13:51

Oh, duh! Sorry, all, I’m just being a dimwit.

raspberrysuicide · 23/02/2018 14:39

My first dd was a very good sleeper. Although my health visitor made me wake her up after she had been asleep for 8 hours !

Butterflyhulk · 24/02/2018 21:28

I lived that name and wanted to call my ds that but OH wouldn't agree, still love it now
also my DD slept through from birth (she was premature) the midwife said I had to wake her every 3 hours to feed and as I was young and she was my first I listened and set an alarm for every 3 hours during the night and I have never felt so exughsted in all my life, I can actually remember one night snoozing the alarm and waking up 15 min later in total panic, jumping off my bed whilst yanking my t-shirt off trying to get her to latch on asap then once she was actually latched on I sat there and thought to myself she's not going to die if I don't feed her exactly every 3 hours and surely if she was hungry she would of woke me, after that panic and having a word with myself I decided to turn the alarms off and just follow her lead and she slept through since then(think it was at about 6 weeks)
Sorry just realised I've gone on a bit off subject x

Figureof80 · 24/02/2018 21:45

I agree that is a great name, dunno why but it makes me think of hard boiled Raymond Chandler type 1930s PIs.

lucy101101 · 24/02/2018 21:57

My DH wasn't sure about our DS's name... so we agreed that on the day before his 1st birthday (when it is still easy to change) we wold revisit it and see how he felt. He decided that he did like it after all and didn't want to change it but I think it was helpful that he didn't feel 'stuck' with it.

CatherineUC · 24/02/2018 22:05

I really like it! :)

MeadowHay · 24/02/2018 22:22

I think for a littl'un I would like Vinnie, sounds cute, but for a teen/adult the full name is lovely. Obv up to you what you do but it's a great name.

expertonnothing · 24/02/2018 22:23

I think Vincent is a lovely name.

Call him Vinny/Vinnie or Vince.

expertonnothing · 24/02/2018 22:26

lucy101

I'm going to sound really thick here but would you have changed your child's name on their first birthday??

By the time my son was one he had a bank account set up, a passport, dentist records, doctors records not to mention the fact that his name had been in place with friends and family for a whole year. They'd had thought me and DH were losing the plot if we decided to change it. I also don't know how people would remember to call him by his "new" name.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2018 22:32

My Ds slept through the night in hospital and mostly from then on in, no-one batted an eyelid or I think even noticed. DS2 was very similar but did have some nights where he just fed all night.
