How many Dexters do you know?

DS is 4mo and is named Dexter. We liked it for many reasons but one of them was that is was quite low down on the popularity scale. Quite often when people ask his name they say 'oh my friend just called their baby Dexter!' It's obviously not a big deal, it's just a name so please don't think I'm being a special snowflake. My 3yo DNiece is an Isla and they thought it was a very rare name, and now it's in the top 10 I think so I guess it got me wondering if DP and I have made the same mistake.
So MNs, how many Dexter's, if any, do you know?

I'm a secondary teacher though so maybe in a few years I'll start seeing a few come through.

MoonlightMedicine · 21/02/2018 20:49

I know 4. All under 7.

Ariela · 21/02/2018 20:53

My concern would be the increasing popularity of Dexter cows.

BalloonDinosaur · 21/02/2018 21:07

I know 1 human, unsure of age less than 10 I reckon.

We liked it for DS but friend's dog is Dexter so changed it.

wilts09 · 21/02/2018 21:15

I know two children plus a dog x

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 21/02/2018 21:16

I only know a cat called Dexter, but it was on my list for if DD had been a boy.

officerhinrika · 21/02/2018 21:20

Our local farm shop have just posted to say they’ve got Dexter beef back in. Shall pop over tomorrow before it all sells out. Off point obvs.

GimbleInTheWabe · 21/02/2018 21:22

I know @Ariela I never knew about the cow connection until I made this thread and other posters mentioned it! I'm sure can moooove on from it Wink

That's my DS name as wellSmile DH picked his name and I loved it. When we told people what we were calling him we either got 'like Dexter's lab' or 'as in the serial killer?'

shetookshelter · 21/02/2018 21:48

It's been around number 60-100 in the last few years so it's fairly well used without being at all common.

user1459464195 · 21/02/2018 22:24

I have never met a Dexter. Haven't even heard of one e.g. friend of a friend, or overheard in the park. Never, ever.

UsernameInvalid66 · 22/02/2018 07:54

One, aged about 10.

mintich · 22/02/2018 08:03

I know 2

cindersrella · 22/02/2018 08:15

Apart from off the tv I only know one Smile

Joeybee · 23/02/2018 05:29

I love a few names which have been low down on popularity lists, now suddenly they're rising in popularity and it worries me, as I don't want my baby to be the next Oliver or Ava, so I know what you mean.

Personally I have never met or heard of any baby Dexters. I am in Australia though, so perhaps it is less popular here.

Situp · 23/02/2018 05:32

Only the serial killer on netflix...

DenPerry · 23/02/2018 05:43

I don't know any but it was on my top ten list! Grin Love "Dex" for short too. I have an Alfie and Charlie but there are no other kids in his nursery/reception class with their names. Just call him what you want.

GetAwayFromHer · 23/02/2018 06:59

It's a hip name in London

There are 3 in my son's ( age 17) year

In my Primary, there are none. It's been superseded by other similar surnamey names like Baxter or Parker

NotAgainYoda · 23/02/2018 07:00

I chose a name that I though was uncommon. Not so. A bit disappointing but it suits him

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/02/2018 11:05

I'm surprised Dexter isn't in the top 10. It's huge in my area of the south east. Three in DS's school that I know of, plus I've seen two new babies pop up on FB with that name.

GimbleInTheWabe · 23/02/2018 12:32

It was at number 83 from the 2016 ONS list, maybe it will jump up next year?
It's definitely a lot more popular than I thought if this thread is anything to go by (though I suppose you're probably more likely to reply if you do know a dexter rather than don't) but we love it so much and it suits DS really well.

Ah go on then since you all asked here's a pic of the little charmer. You all asked, right?
