How many Dexters do you know?

DS is 4mo and is named Dexter. We liked it for many reasons but one of them was that is was quite low down on the popularity scale. Quite often when people ask his name they say 'oh my friend just called their baby Dexter!' It's obviously not a big deal, it's just a name so please don't think I'm being a special snowflake. My 3yo DNiece is an Isla and they thought it was a very rare name, and now it's in the top 10 I think so I guess it got me wondering if DP and I have made the same mistake.
So MNs, how many Dexter's, if any, do you know?

Leonora is a great name too (have name envy now!)

Dexterslab · 20/02/2018 21:32

My son is dexter, he's 3. I'm happy to see the positive responses on here, my sil said "like the serial killer?" When we announced his name! I now know of another dexter who is 7, siblings trixie and Baxter, she likes an 'x' name!

khajiit13 · 20/02/2018 21:33

Dexter is a cool TV show. Also a friend just called her puppy Dexter...that's it

NewYearNiki · 20/02/2018 21:34

One. Ended up in jail.

Patal · 20/02/2018 21:34

I live in SE London and know 4. Eldest is 8 and youngest is 6mo

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 20/02/2018 21:36

I'm in London, I've never met a Dexter.

PenguinsandPandas · 20/02/2018 21:38

2 children and 1 dog. By London.

GimbleInTheWabe · 20/02/2018 21:38

Haha @NewYearNiki fingers crossed my dexter stays on the straight and narrow!

@Patal I'm also in SE London so maybe I'm hearing about all the Dexter's that you know too!

Yeah we had the same response @Dexterslab. One of DPs friends even made a really weird remark about how he (our at that point 3 day old DS) needed a good beating or something. T h I think he's never seen a newborn baby before and panicked. But then this way over text so he had a chance to not send such a weird message..

@GimbleInTheWabe

Im sure he will 😂

Lobsterquadrille2 · 20/02/2018 22:07

Charlotte Church has a son called Dexter - no idea how old he is. I know one, a baby of four months who lives in SE London but his mother is called Jo 😀.

NormHonal · 20/02/2018 22:11

Flipping love this name. It was our “name that got away” when we had DD instead of a DS. We thought “Dex” was an excellent nickname. Great choice OP!

I’ve not met a Dexter IRL.

GimbleInTheWabe · 20/02/2018 22:42

Well I'm appreciating all the love for DS' fine name (even the pets who share it), thanks all. I loved the name Jesse for so long but then DP suggested Dexter one day (in between many ridiculous names) and it just seemed so right. We still didn't decide for sure until we bought him home from hospital though, what if he looked like a Roger?

I'll keep my eyes peeled for Jo @Lobsterquadrille2! She is clearly a fantastic woman.

One lovely little (human) boy and one Labrador

EleanorXx · 21/02/2018 14:55

1 age 19

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2018 20:16

I don't like it. Dex Dexter in the 1980s Dynasty was ok though.

stoplickingthetelly · 21/02/2018 20:18

I don't know any and in 12 years I've never taught any either.

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2018 20:19

Actually the more I think about it, I can see the appeal. He's probably lovely.
Names often turn out to be more popular than you think. If you like it chances are lots of other people like it too. Isla is lovely but so many of them.

Porgs · 21/02/2018 20:21

Friend has just named her newborn Dexter. It also made it to our final 2 'if it's a boy' names but I vetoed in the end because I don't think it sounds right with our surname. Great name.

happytobemrsg · 21/02/2018 20:21

I don't know any!

TroysMammy · 21/02/2018 20:22

Two, one about 6, the other in his late 70's.

Yogagirl123 · 21/02/2018 20:22

None, it is one of my favourite boys names.

GimbleInTheWabe · 21/02/2018 20:27

Interesting you've not come across one whilst teaching @stoplickingthetelly. I'll have to ask my DSis as she's a teacher too

I think it's a bit like when you're pregnant and all you can see are other pregnant people. I genuinely don't think I'll mind if it becomes more popular though as I really love it and can't imagine DS being called anything else. He's such a little Dexter. Glad so many of you love it too!

One my son who is 3. Its a great name OP. It was completely different to the names we were thinking to call him as they were quite old fashioned names, then DH said Dexter and we both loved it.

justanotheruser18 · 21/02/2018 20:33

Only the title character of the TV show.

Tiddlywinks63 · 21/02/2018 20:37

Three in local nursery, two Border Terriers and a Shire horse 🙄
