What names did you ADORE but DP/DH vetoed?

I am mourning over the fact I'm not allowed to use Perdita. Sad

I love Perdita.

Raphael was vetoed both times, and DS2 is so a Raphael.

For girls: Meg, Alba, Lotte and Sylvie.

If we ever have another, I hope to suggest them all again and hope he's changed his mind!

RickOShay · 14/02/2018 07:40

I am still bitter about Gabriel 8 years later Grin
dh staunchly defends the indefensible

Situp · 14/02/2018 07:44

I have 3 brothers and my dad famously vetoed Conan, Herman and Mungo which were my mum's choices.

She still maintains they are lovely names...

AGreatBigPonk · 14/02/2018 09:10

Florence...although I'm kind of glad now as I love the name we ended up picking, but I was dead set on it for a long time

deptfordgirl · 14/02/2018 09:17

Too many. We actually have quite similar taste so we can find a lot we both agree on but he has some irrational dislikes to names I love. In particular: Theo, Isaac, Jude, Rufus and Verity, Felicity, Annabel, Leah.

howthelightgetsin · 14/02/2018 09:31

Lydia

MrsMcW · 14/02/2018 10:02

Christopher, to be shortened to Kit, and also Alastair and Rupert.

I got my own back by vetoing Louis - ridiculous name IMO if you don't have some form of French connection to justify it!

mrsnolasco · 14/02/2018 10:10

Eliza, Martha and Evangeline were my favourite names for girls. He hated all 3.

Murine · 15/02/2018 13:56

Naomi (an ex), Rosie (a childhood pet) and Harriet ("too posh")

kaytee87 · 15/02/2018 15:31

Dh vetoed Matthew.
I still think I can convince him if we have another boy though.

dingdongdigeridoo · 15/02/2018 18:42

DH vetoed Ezra when DS was born. Probably a good thing as it’s very popular now.

I vetoed Holly for this one. I don’t hate the name, I just used to know a really, really annoying Holly and some names are just always associated with negative traits.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/02/2018 18:52

Meredith - reminded him of Meredith Kercher

Perdita- didn’t like the meaning

Aurelia - pretentious

Serena - knew one once and hated her

He suggested Ruth...the name of a woman he had previously had a fairly long term relationship with Hmm. I vetoed that.

Dd’s name is one we both ultimately agreed on and none of the other names would have suited her as well as the one we went with in the end.

DryIce · 15/02/2018 18:53

So many of mine are on here - who knew j had such feminine taste! He vetoed:

Felix/Raphael/Gabriel/Rory

Hazel/Daphne/Helena

Ethelswith · 15/02/2018 18:56

Tallulah and Persephone (where maybe he had a point)

But also Saskia and Lucy, and Fergus

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/02/2018 18:59

Oh Persephone was one of mine that vetoed too!

Just remembered the boys names -

Jasper - slang for wasps...in the South of England, which is not where we live Hmm

Aneurin - too Welsh. Live in Wales Confused

Gabriel - would get bullied in school because it has “gay” in it (this was a very out of character stupid comment from him)

Torin - too Lord of the Rings

I don’t think we would ever have agreed on a boys name.

SingingSands · 15/02/2018 19:02

Although I love DD’s name, I remember wanting to call her Ruby and DH vetoed it.

Fast forward 6 months, we’re watching a tv programme with a character called Ruby and DH turns to me and says “I really like that name”. It was if he was hearing it for the first time!

KarineAimee · 15/02/2018 19:26

Serena and Audrey Sad

PasswordRejection · 15/02/2018 21:45

Sirius for DC1 (thank goodness Grin)

DH also rejected my all time most favourite girls name for DC1, who ended up being a boy.

I tentatively suggested it again when I was 38 weeks pregnant with DC2 and he had done a completely 180. DC2 was a girl and she has the name I love! So there's always hope!
