Hello!

I'm a writer after suggestions for a name for a character, rather than a real life baby (not quite at that stage of life yet!) so I hope it's still OK to post for advice here!

I'm after a pretty girls name with three syllables and a possible NN which you wouldn't necessarily associate with the full name. It can't be immediately clear that the two characters are the same person - so nothing obvious like Susannah and Suzie.

In return, all I can promise is the satisfaction of knowing it was your idea, if ever you read the finished book!

Ooh sounds like you have an interesting twist in your book.

I can’t actually think of any names that can be shortened to something that doesn’t sound similar.
I can list a few three syllable names though if anybody can think of a nick name for them.

Margaret
Jacqueline
Sophia
Bethany
Caroline
Brittany
Sapphire
Maria
Teresa

I remember watching something ages ago where one of the characters was referred to as Nana. You automatically assume that they are talking about their grandmother. Then later on it turns out that the Character's name is Hannah, and the nickname stems from how they pronounced their name as a child.
Obviously Hannah does have enough syllables. What about Johannah?
I did know someone called Dorothy with the nickname Doffy, due to how they pronounced their name as a kid.
Richard Hammond's wife uses Mindy, as a nickname for Amanda.

Alison / Madison = nn Sonny?
Georgetta = nn Jet?

Posy can be a nn for Josephine.

I once read an autobiography, where the author's aunt was Brittannia, but she went by tannia. So if she was your character she could go by Tannia / Brit...Shame it's too many syllables!

I am interested to know what you pick, op. It's quite a challenge when you stop and think about it.
