Are these really terrible names? Mentioned them to my mum and she said they are terrible, chavvy and 'too unique'. (Yes I know, lesson learnt!)

  • Jacinda - has been a favourite of mine since I was a kid (I had a lovely friend as a child called Jacinda) and I've always liked the name Cindy as a nickname. .
  • Indiana - always been a fan of place names and I like Indi as a nickname.
  • Devon - again, another place name I like.
  • Kayla, a longtime favourite of DH and I also like it.

Just want to gather some thoughts, honestly please, I am made of strong stuff!

Names are very much personal choice. I hate to say it but I do not like any of those names personally and a couple do sometimes get screeched across the park by what would be stereotyped as 'chavvy' mums BUT it really is your choice to make!

Battleax · 25/01/2018 06:38

Devon is quite nice. I'm not mad on the others.

FissionChips · 25/01/2018 06:38

Very common names on my council estate Grin

ShanghaiDiva · 25/01/2018 06:39

I love jacinda, but not the others.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 25/01/2018 06:41

I don’t like any of them, if I’m totally honest, (sorry)!

TheMasterNotMargarita · 25/01/2018 06:42

None of them are to my personal taste but they are just names.
(Except Devon which for some reason makes me see scones with cream and jam and I do not like at all Confused).
Calling a name 'chavy' says more about that person than it does about the name imo.

SuperBeagle · 25/01/2018 06:44

I don't like any of them, to be honest.

Devon is a deli/lunch meat where I live, so I would be surprised to see it on a person here.

The others are a bit "chavvy", sorry. Blush

FairyPenguin · 25/01/2018 06:46

I agree with your mum. Sorry.

mathanxiety · 25/01/2018 06:51

I am with your mum too.

Jacinda isn't too awful I suppose, but I prefer the actual name Jacinta.

The others are really all that your mum said they are. Especially Kayla.

Battleax · 25/01/2018 06:55

Kay is very nice. Is that too simple for your taste?

Onceuponatimethen · 25/01/2018 06:57

We tried to choose names that would take our kids anywhere - eg with a name like Harry or Ella you could be from any social group and do any job without standing out.

I wouldn’t pick your names myself because I don’t think they fit into this rule.

Are there any others you like?

littlebillie · 25/01/2018 06:57

Go with what you love

mumof22017 · 25/01/2018 06:58

Kayla

StupidMcStupidFace · 25/01/2018 07:06

I like Devon but to me it is very icy a boys name. Indiana is quite nice too.

Knittingteapot · 25/01/2018 07:11

I actually disagree with the pp. They're not names I would choose, but I don't think they're 'chavvy'. In my area, those names would be things like Jaden, Caden, Kade and Caleb. Which even so, they're names that sound fine individually. I think your names are more interesting than the dozens of Oscars, Amelias, Harrys, Evies that are about. Jacinda, Devon and Kayla work well on an adult as well.

OlafLovesAnna · 25/01/2018 07:13

I like Jacinta rather than Jacinda and Indiana is ok but I prefer Indigo.

ClaudiaD13 · 25/01/2018 07:18

I like Indiana, I always had on my list of girls names and everyone always told me it was too out there and a bit masculine (think Indiana Jones). You could always go with India (and shorten to Indi) which I like as a girls name or maybe just Ana (nn Indiana).

I like Devon but to me it is a more masculine name. I have a male relative called Devin. The only girl I know called Devon does come from, to use your Mums word a more 'chavvy' family, same with Kayla.

I really don't like Jacinda, but that's just me. You need to pick a name you love. You will always find someone who hates the name!

Brokenbiscuit · 25/01/2018 07:21

Well, ultimately it's about what you like, and not what anyone else thinks, but since you've asked...I'm afraid I really don't like any of your choices at all. It's just a matter of personal taste, though, isn't it?

TheForgetfulCat · 25/01/2018 07:29

Jacinda Ardern is the current prime minister of New Zealand and a good sort of association to have.

LynetteScavo · 25/01/2018 07:55

I really don't like Kayla at all, but the others are nice.

The only Indiana I've ever met was quite posh.

Scarydinosaurs · 25/01/2018 08:13

I think if you like them then that’s enough!

If you like Indi, do you also like Indigo? Or Lucinda?

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 25/01/2018 08:14

I’m not keen on any of them.

laurzj82 · 25/01/2018 08:16

I think Indiana is lovely. Not keen on the others if I am honest

Fantasticmissfoxy · 25/01/2018 08:48

Yeah I'm with your mum I'm afraid...

ChocolateCrunch · 25/01/2018 09:11

I like Indiana, but prefer India. Not sure about the others.
