Last night we went to see my cousins gorgeous new twins and we're in shock. They have named them Felix and Fearne. Fern has been our name almost right from the start of this pregnancy but we didnt tell anyone in rl. My cousin and I are very close both geographically and emotionally so it really is off the table for us. I lightly told him he'd pinched our girl's name and he was really apologetic bless him. No one's fault but I'm gutted especially as the whole family have said what a beautiful name it is . Mn will be Angelica which we cannot use as a first name. Our dd is Nancy surname J. Please any suggestions of what we may like? We're both stumped

My mum’s and her cousin’s wife were pregnant at the same time and when I was born and my mum told her cousin my name they said that if they were having a girl they would have had the same name as mine. My mum said they should still have it if they wanted it and they did. We saw a lot of each other growing up and still see each other now.

We have never been mixed up with each other and nobody feels weird or strange about it.

I knew fern and Dawn siblings. That was cute.

My dsis who was also pg but 3 months behind me had chosen the same boys name. It is pretty unusual where we live (Sebastian) and quite a coincidence too.

We hadn't discussed with anyone names and neither had she.

Fern is a lovely name. But a lot of the fauna names are too.

This is one of my fears
Everytime a baby is announced I dread them using 'our' names
But you need to tell yourself, the name might not have suited the baby anyway
You'll find the perfect one!

Seren (means star, so is another nature-based name and has that soft n at the end.)

MegAndSprog · 02/12/2017 09:17

I have three sets of cousins called Joe and Chris! Only really problematic for the mutual GPs.

Erica (Latin for Heather)
Rowan
Bracken?

Holly

Pp's suggestion Seren is even nicer than Fern. As is Flora.

I also think Greta, Heather and Hazel are gorgeous.

Is it really impossible for you to use the same name? I know two cousins who have both the same first name and surname. It's fine. They're about ten now and they actually quite like it.

DelphiniumBlue · 02/12/2017 11:27

Felicity/Felicia/Felice nn Fliss?

iBiscuit · 02/12/2017 11:29

Isadora has a point - "FA" isn't the best combination of initials. It tickles me, and it wouldn't bother me to have them, but your dd might not feel the same way.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 02/12/2017 11:33

Hazel, Rowan and Ellen are fab, similarish vibe and go very well with Angelica. (I wouldn't go for a long name, partly because your planned middle name is long and partly to 'go with' your elder dd's name).

FizzyGreenWater · 02/12/2017 16:02

Have to say Fern isn't at all in the same league as Nancy. Call her Linnet.

Linnet Angelica

I think Hazel is a beautiful name which seems similar to Fern. I also think Jennifer has a similar vibe even though it's not botanical and it isn't very common now at all.

Smoliver · 02/12/2017 21:57

Oh dear, how unfortunate.

How about:

Hazel
Heather
Dawn
Ivy
Iris
Ingrid
Jade
Joy
June
Freya
Flora
Fleur
Erin
Eve
Thea
Hope

SumAndSubstance · 02/12/2017 22:07

My first thought was also Hazel - I see I share it with several other posters!
