Last night we went to see my cousins gorgeous new twins and we're in shock. They have named them Felix and Fearne. Fern has been our name almost right from the start of this pregnancy but we didnt tell anyone in rl. My cousin and I are very close both geographically and emotionally so it really is off the table for us. I lightly told him he'd pinched our girl's name and he was really apologetic bless him. No one's fault but I'm gutted especially as the whole family have said what a beautiful name it is . Mn will be Angelica which we cannot use as a first name. Our dd is Nancy surname J. Please any suggestions of what we may like? We're both stumped

Violet is a lovely name. But not when the middle and last names' initials are AJ. Seriously.

Use Hazel, when your daughter is little she'll like having the same name as a dog but the dog will be dead before it becomes mortifying for her. And in 30 years noone will remember Hazel the dog.

I understand how you feel. SILs DSis has a DS a few months older than mine with the same name, when I found out what she had called her baby I did have a wobble but luckily it's a common name where we are from so no-one there is surprised we used the same name (which is where we see each other) but we both live in another country where the name is unusual. The boys like having the same name because normally they are unique.

Polly or Violet go well with Nancy.

Welsh - Carys
Swiss - Heidi

Here I missed the surname bit! Yes, definitely a bullet dodged there. I'd wear those initials with pride at forty, but utter modification at 14 Grin

Oh thank heavens, you've dodged a bullet.

Fern Angelica J? Initials FAJ?

(see "fadge" in Urban Dictionary if this means nothing to you...)

Elowen Angelica
Lowenna Angelica
Elspeth Angelica
Pernille Angelica (or Pernilla) - Swedish, and you get a little of the sound of Fern in there...
Madeleine Angelica
Trudi Angelica
Ursula Angelica

Just call her the same name. It's not a big deal.

Ok...thanks again for the suggestions and advice. We're still churning things over but will definitely not be using Fern. I'll bug you again with a shortlist soon probably!

What's wrong with being the 'second ' Fern? Am i the only one who can't see a problem? Just use it if that's the name you want!

Yes Hazel is lovely, as soon as its your daughters name it will be HER name, not the dogs name iyswim.

I would go with Hazel if you and your DH like it. I wouldn't care that a friend has a dog called Hazel! That really shouldn't stop you..
