Suggestions for my (fussy) husband?

My DH has vetoed a lot of (beautiful) names, which I've suggested. To date he has suggested two names:

Jack
James

I don't like either of them enough to use, though they are fine. I quite like James, but I'm worried the royal baby might be a boy named James and don't really want the name to match the Royal baby. I am due well before DoC is, so can't change choice after they have their baby.

Fwiw my choice would be:

Gabriel Wilfred Surname
Rowan Wilfred Surname (which ends in -son, so not sure if Rowan goes all that well)?

Dh doesn't like them, but hasn't done a total Hmm face at me for the Gabriel suggestion. So maybe he'll come round to that. But I'm not sure.

Alfie? Joshua? Alexander? Jacob?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 14:50

Thanks chubby!

He's vetoed Alfred and Jacob (due to Rees-mog). We have a nephew named Alexander, (lovely name though), so can't really use. I don't really like Joshua.

John or Jonathan?

nodogsinthebedroom · 25/09/2017 14:53

Samuel
Benjamin
Stephen
Jake
Christopher/Kit

RJnomore1 · 25/09/2017 14:55

Jude?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 14:56

Samuel and Christopher (Kit) are definite possibilities as we both quite like them. Is Samuel ubiquitous? I only know of two little Samuels (one is 1yo, the other is primary school age).

I love Jude! Vetoed by DH though.

Oh I just asked him if he had to pick between Gabriel and Rowan which he would pick and he said Rowan. That's progress as I expected him to say "neither"!

Peter?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 15:00

He says he likes Peter!

Peter is a beautiful name.

BellaVida · 25/09/2017 15:02

If your DH likes J names, what about Jonah, Joseph or Jasper?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 15:05

Jonah and Jasper have been vetoed. I don't like Joseph enough to use it (beginning to wonder who the fussy one is)!

I think I like Peter. I'm not that sure about Pete though...

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/09/2017 15:08

You can be a Peter without being a Pete

Winteriscomingneedmorewood · 25/09/2017 15:10

I have a Gabriel and a Roan. .
Great choice!!

MammieBear · 25/09/2017 15:11

You might like seamus which is the Irish version of James or Hamish the Scottish, Peter is lovely, it sounds like you like classic unusual and he likes traditional classic, you'll find the one a good sight to go on is magicbabynames.com this allows you to put in le names you like and comes up with similar style names.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 15:13

Hamish and Seamus both suggested by me and vetoed by DH. I especially love Hamish, but it's a no go.

Gregor?

Trying to get a feel for what he might like!

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 15:14

Grin @winter. You too have fabulous taste.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 15:15

Gregor also vetoed (despite me loving it). I thought he'd like that one too.

Matthew
Nicholas
Anthony
Stephen
Michael
David
Simon nd Mark must be due a come back.

RJnomore1 · 25/09/2017 15:22

Ok I think I have the hang of names YOU would like...

Hmm

Matthew?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 25/09/2017 15:24

I love Matthew, DH likes it. But neither of us like Matt and I can't think of any other shortenings. It's quite a long name to write down, so expect it will get shortened.

Julian and Giles both vetoed by DH.

Peter and Rowan are both lovely choices. The Peter I know is only ever a Peter, never a Pete.
