Suggestions for my (fussy) husband?

My DH has vetoed a lot of (beautiful) names, which I've suggested. To date he has suggested two names:

Jack
James

I don't like either of them enough to use, though they are fine. I quite like James, but I'm worried the royal baby might be a boy named James and don't really want the name to match the Royal baby. I am due well before DoC is, so can't change choice after they have their baby.

Fwiw my choice would be:

Gabriel Wilfred Surname
Rowan Wilfred Surname (which ends in -son, so not sure if Rowan goes all that well)?

Dh doesn't like them, but hasn't done a total Hmm face at me for the Gabriel suggestion. So maybe he'll come round to that. But I'm not sure.

He knows SDTG. I am a French speaker and rather partial to a kir, so he is trying to make a joke. Bottom line is, he doesn't like it Sad. He is being very difficult to please. He considers lots of names 'out there'; anything Irish is too hard to pronounce (I'm Irish ffs), anything Scottish he doesn't like as we aren't Scottish (his own name is Scottish), some names he doesn't like as he knows too many adults of the same name (this is the only thing we agree on actually, but couple that with his dislike of anything too modern, too vintage, too unusual, too biblical and it's nigh on impossible to pick a name he will like) .

Benedict if you don't want benjamin?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 26/09/2017 11:38

Benedict vetoed by DH.

Benjamin he says he is also not keen on as he knows too many adult Bens.

I'm pushing for Rowan.

Backstory btw, is that we couldn't agree on names last time either, so we made a deal that DH would get to pick dc1's name, (from a list we both were ok with), if it turned out to be a girl. I could choose (from the same kind of list), if it was a boy. She is a girl.

I didn't completely love any of the names on the list, but had a preference for one name, which would have had loads of lovely shortenings. He picked a different name, which I did like, but didn't love and didn't really get that much say over. I love it now of course as I say it every day to my lovely DD. This time, I'm determined to find a name I love. I don't think DH loves any boy names; he is just ok with Jack and James as they are inoffensive and he thinks they go well with DD's name. So, surely a name I absolutely love is better than one we are both just ok with? Am I convincing anyone? He doesn't hate Rowan or even strongly dislike it afaik.

Your baby will grow into his name. D'S was going to be Hugo. He wasn't a Hugo so we decided on a different name. For DD I loved Daisy and Isabel, DH loved Imogen and Madeleine. We have a complex surname. We compromised on a classic, easy alternative. DD ended up with three of her name and three Imogen's in her class. Neither were mega popular at the time.

Royal baby won't be James, Prince Edwards son is James.

Personally I think Rowan would be fine for a girl, but a bit wet for a boy.

Gabriel or James is better imo.

Rowan is a great name. A friend of mine had a baby boy Rowan a few years ago - I was secretly annoyed as it means I can't use it.

I like your husband's thinking.

Love the name Rowan but I’m probably a bit bias as that’s my son’s name Smile
