Really undecided with boys names and I just heard this. Have never considered it before but quite like it. I also love biblical names and from googling see it's in the bible. What are your thoughts?

Love it

GurgleBoots · 01/09/2017 07:30

I find it really bizarre when people say oh such and such is a dog's name. I know one dog called James and another called Andy Confused

GinIsIn · 01/09/2017 08:22

I love the name but have never met a person called it. I have encountered 2 cats, a hamster and a horse however....

Jooni · 01/09/2017 08:23

Love it!

TheSleeperandTheSpindle · 01/09/2017 08:28

Love it!

TempsPerdu · 01/09/2017 08:30

Love it - was on our shortlist for DC1 but turns out we're expecting a girl. Wouldn't say it was a dog's name at all - I know of no dogs called Rufus, but plenty called Jack, Ben, Sam etc!

stellarfox · 01/09/2017 09:01

I like it! Makes me think of Rufus Wainwright

nigelsbigface · 01/09/2017 09:03

Lots of people call me Rufus as a nickname and I really like it...

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/09/2017 09:08

I was about to come and say that I love it as I'm a huge Rufus Wainwright fan so it has very positive connotations for me, but stellar beat me to it.

bridgetreilly · 01/09/2017 09:31

I'm probably a bit boring though and prefer fairly traditional names.

William Rufus, son of William the Conqueror not traditional enough for you?

Sequence · 01/09/2017 09:33

Love it Smile

Some other names in similar style IMO are...

Felix
Cyrus
Jasper
Amos
Cassius
Seth
Theodore
Elias
Caspar

Susierocks · 01/09/2017 10:04

Sequence I really like some of those, thanks. Particularly Theodore (but know so many little Theos and Teddys), Seth and Caspar.

Yes ds has no problem with the name. He's late teens now. Smile

emilybrontescorset · 02/09/2017 09:47

I like it.
Reminds me of Rufus and Chakka Chan, ain't nobody.

PinkFlamingo888 · 03/09/2017 07:35

We were on the beach the other day and there was a large group next to us of about 8 families so loads of children between them but it was one called Rufus whose name was constantly being called out across the beach and hearing it like that really put me off the name as it sounded like they were calling a dog. Similarly with a Hugo at a different beach the other day, not for the dog reason though, he was just extremely irritating.

Garliccalamari · 03/09/2017 10:58

I like it. It sounds like a good strong name for a boy. I don't have the dog connection that some people on here have, so if you do have that it might put you off. It goes nicely with all the trendy boys names out there while being rare at the same time.

Liadain · 03/09/2017 16:29

It does come across as a dog name to me. I know people say many dogs are called Jack and Molly etc nowadays, but when I think of Rufus/Max/Lola/Toby/Bailey/ Oscar/Ollie etc, one of the first pics in my head is of a dog.

Threeandabit · 03/09/2017 22:37

I really like it.

RedPepperYellowPepper · 04/09/2017 00:25

Dog is my first thought.

mariannesteven · 06/01/2018 00:40

Sorry if I’m too late and really hope you chose Rufus as a name.
My DS2 is Rufus, he has had no probs with it, no bullying etc, infact the opposite, most kids think it’s cool! There is 1 other boy at our primary with the same name and our Rufus is now 9. No one has anything negative to say about it. ( I had the whole dog thing too when pregnant!) good luck! Pls let me know what you’ve chosen x

SpottyBrolly · 06/01/2018 18:53

I really like it and was in the list for DC but did have a dog called Rufus that put me off. However, I've met other little Rufus since and still like the name.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 06/01/2018 20:32

I really like it. With roo or red as possible shortenings.

Just don’t do what a woman I met at the park did and shorten it to roofie!

buttercup54321 · 06/01/2018 21:58

Rufus and Rex I think of dogs .
Thomas
Matthew
Daniel
David
Caleb
Aaron
Adam
Joseph

Unnoticed · 06/01/2018 22:07

It was a nickname for DS2 when he was small - I miss Rufus, it suited him!

brizzledrizzle · 06/01/2018 22:08

Yes, unless your surname is bungalow....
