I would have had Artemis if DS had been DD. What about Janus? God of new beginnings?
DD who isn't Artemis but does have an unusual mythological name is planning on studying Classics next year. I like unusual names but not ones too out there. It's the first gift you give your children so it's important to think about the recipient first and fotemost, imho.

Glumglowworm · 18/07/2017 10:36

Pegasus for a human child is ridiculous

Philomena is awful imo but at least it's an actual name for humans

Time40 · 18/07/2017 10:36

Philomena is all right (although I'm sure it would get shortened to Philly, which would remind me of the soft cheese). But please, please don't call your son after a horse!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 18/07/2017 10:40

janus is nice but you need to think ahead to how an 11 year old boy will be treated at school when the vast majority of their name is made up from the word anus

Popskipiekin · 18/07/2017 10:44

They would get shortened to Phil & Peggy as pps said and you'd forever be correcting people "no actually the boy is Peggy, the girl is Phil".

Phineas? Peregrine? Penelope? Persephone?

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 18/07/2017 10:50

Another vote for "makes a nice change from Jack and lily"

I would have Asus or acer as a nn for peg Asus

Mina or Minnie for Philomina.

They will (hopefully) be old one day!

Somersetlady · 18/07/2017 10:51

I have a horse called Pegasus and know of another horse called Pegasus. For a horse I think its a great name.........

Is that you Mrs Rees-Mogg?

SleepFreeZone · 18/07/2017 10:53

I think people will laugh. Forever 😬

Deadsouls · 18/07/2017 10:54

No! Especially Pegasus

LotisBlue · 18/07/2017 11:24

I quite like philomena

Not pegasus, sorry

Lemondrop99 · 18/07/2017 11:41

As above. I think they'll get shortened to Peg/Peggy and Phil, and you'll forever be explaining that the girl is Phil and the boy is Peggy. I think the boy might resent that his sister escaped with a 'real' name, where as he gets a mythical horse and a girly nickname.

I don't personally like Philomina, but at least it's a human name. Pegasus is just pushing the whole Phoenix/Fox/Bear/Wolf thing too far. Don't forget that it's the children who need to carry these names for their whole life. What if Pegasus turns out to be a really shy little boy but it constantly being picked out because of his name? I don't mind different names, but it's too much.

There are much nicer classics names you could pick. I quite like the above suggestion of Phineas.

autumnkate · 18/07/2017 13:53

If you want something from Classical history, what about Hector? There was a hero.

autumnkate · 18/07/2017 13:54

Oohhhh Hero and Hector

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 14:39

Peg and Phil.
They do sound more like horse names. How about Ptolemy and Persephone.

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 14:43

Pliny and Penelope.
Socrates and Sophia.
Artemis and Adonis.
Apollo and Athena
Dionysus and Demeter...

SisterMoonshine · 18/07/2017 14:49

GinIsIn · 18/07/2017 14:50

Mammysin · 18/07/2017 14:53
