Isadora, Vivienne and...

DD1 is Isadora. We are expecting twins end of this year and we are 100% on girls names. If they are twin girls they will be called Vivienne and Josephine.

Isadora is Dora and we like Vivi and Posy as shortenings for our twin girl names.

We like having a "Sunday best" name as it were, I prefer shorter more cutesy nicknames as children but would like them to have a "proper" name as they get older so would like that same theme to continue in our boys names.

Problem is I don't like ANY boys names but have convinced myself it is a boy and a girl from the 12 week scan - we won't find out at the 20 week scan. Struggling because we want a solid, traditional name that isn't too "out there" but not one that's extremely popular.

Any suggestions??

Our rather mixed bag of "like but not love"

Albert - Bertie
Douglas - Dougie
George - Georgie
Ambrose - Bram

Thank you :)

Mammabear

If you really love a name, then don't think you shouldn't use it if someone you know already has it. Unless, it's close family of course.

I know people who didn't use the names they loved for their children and now wish they had of done.

BewareOfDragons · 15/07/2017 10:56

Thaddeus - Thad
Theodore - Theo
Quentin - Quin
Jasper - Jas or Jaz
Cameron - Cam
Alexander - Alex

Also like Montgomery - Monty as someone else has mentioned.

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 11:01

AlongcameMolly I know what you mean. I think the fact that it's putting me off maybe means I don't like the names quite enough?

BewareofDragons love Jasper unfortunately it's the name of my MILs precious dog who she treats like her second son 😂 Monty is definitely on our list!!

Augustus / Gus
Maxwell / Axl / Max
Theodore / Teddy /Theo
Franklin / Frank
Christopher /Kit
Christian / Kit

MammieBear · 15/07/2017 11:10

And...

Alistair
Barnaby
Roscoe
Hope these help Smile, I like a name challenge!

geeup · 15/07/2017 11:13

If you like Monty, Montague is also an option for his full name.

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 11:14

Here's my 12 weeks scan pic to help with name choices Grin twin 2 at the bottom to me definitely looks like a boy - look at that massive head!

Isadora, Vivienne and...

mammiebear Barnaby! Love that and Barney is very cute. On my list :)

geeup ooh thanks for the suggestion. I think I prefer Montgomery as a longer name for Monty although it is a bit of a mouthful. DH has just SO HELPFULLY reminded me of Monty Burns from the Simpsons - not happy with him at the moment 😬

I knew a Phineas in high school, who was Phin for short...

Ojoj1974 · 15/07/2017 11:22

Douglas. I total adore it. It's the name of the child I will never have !!

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 11:27

LadyMonica I love Phineas but stupid DH has vetoed immediately. Phin/Finn such a lovely nn too.

Ojoj argh I do love Douglas. Dougie is gorgeous too. DH isn't 100% and I wasn't sure if Isadora, Vivienne and Douglas "went" together? It's sticking on my list though.

Ahh very cute! ♥ seems like yesterday for me.. Thought of a couple more then I'll have to stop as it's addictive!
Gulliver
Rupert
Wilfred

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 11:47

mammiebear Rupert I love DH has said no. Starting to wonder why I married someone with no taste in names!! (Jokes). Ah Wilfred is cute. Love the Wilfred Owen connotation as well, one of my fave poets.

I would say Oscar is more popular than Bertie where I live. It's a gorgeous name - wanted to use it for both boys!

octoberfarm · 15/07/2017 12:28

Not sure if it helps but we have a Casper and call him Cap, Cappy or Caspie for nicknames. Love that the last two are cute for a kid and felt Cap had the same appeal as Kit for a teen or adult.

SumAndSubstance · 15/07/2017 12:30

Jonathan (Jonty)?

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 13:19

Yoko that does put me off - it is quite popular.

october thanks that does help! Love the range of nicknames. I agree Cap is similar to Kit in that sense - quite a "cool" name for a teen/adult.

Sum Jonathan is out I'm afraid - countless Jonnys in my school year and I have an Uncle John.

Won't you need two potential boy names? It might not be a Vivienne at all.

Syvlain
Sylvester
Felipe
Leonard
Theophilus
Nathaniel
Elias
Julius
Andre
Bartholomew
Xavier

YoungYolandaYorgensen39 · 15/07/2017 13:55

Oops, that should say Sylvain.

AlongcameMolly · 15/07/2017 14:04

Dominico/Dominic
Santino
Demetrius
Or a 'Christmassy name' such as Nicolas, if they're due around that time

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 14:13

YoungYolanda that is very true! I'm so convinced it's a boy/girl I might be in for a shock! Complying a fantastic list of boys names here though so hopefully picking out two will be much easier after all these suggestions! I like Sylvester, Elias and Bartholomew from your list.

AlongcameMolly I love Demetrius but think DH will say no. Nicolas is out - the name of an ex!

MyNewBearTotoro · 15/07/2017 14:15

Are you sure one of the twins is going to be a girl? Could it not be two boys?

Anyway, how about

Rufus
Reginald
Sylvester
Bartholomew
Patrick
Solomon
Cornelius
Donovan
Zachary
Edison

alpacasandwich · 15/07/2017 14:16

Gus is a nice nickname for Angus.

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 14:22

Totoro yes it could be two boys as I said above! I think it's more I'm slightly hoping at least one is a girl as I'm so sure of my girls names. So many great suggestions I'm sure I'll be able to pick two boys names if it comes to it. Fab list by the way but no new ones jumping out at me :(

alpaca oh Angus I never thought of before - I love that. On my list!

LilaBard · 15/07/2017 14:27

There arent really to my taste but some of the less common names/nicknames I know:
Ignatius - Iggy
Alphonsus - Alfie or Fonsie (that's fon-see not fon-zie like happy days)
Augustus/Augustine - Gus or Gussy but you could also get August which is nice
Campbell - Cam
Leopold - Leo

More "normal" Matthew - Mattie

Love your girls names btw! Gorgeous.
