The honest truth on this name

So I really like the name Romana and so does DH. I know my family will hate it though because I'm predictably weird with my choices for everything in life. I know it's not completely out there but it's more unique than most names, at least in Blighty. I think it has more following in Slovenia, Czech Republic and a few other countries.

How do you guys feel about it?

I know there are alternatives: Rowenna, Rowena, Rosalina, Ramona etc but I'm not taken. It has to be Romana.

I'm not keen sorry. Quite like Rowenna and Rosalind/Rosamund.

DryIce · 23/05/2017 18:26

I have never heard it before. I quite like Roma, so it should be the kind of name I like.

I'm afraid all I can think of, though, is pizza Romana from Pizza Express

ColourfulOrangex · 23/05/2017 18:26

I'm not too sure on it OP but at the end of the day it is your baby :)

LovingLola · 23/05/2017 18:27

It's a pizza. I wouldn't.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 23/05/2017 18:27

As in the 70's Time Lord?

LittleBearPad · 23/05/2017 18:27

Pizza. Sorry

Neome · 23/05/2017 18:29

Romy-Anna?

ApocalypseNowt · 23/05/2017 18:30

Pizza express springs to mind.

EuroWin1 · 23/05/2017 18:30

I thought Pizza Express too Grin

NellyTimes · 23/05/2017 18:30

Yeah and Josh is a curry but it doesn't stop half the population calling their son that.

I really like it, go for it.

Nightmanagerfan · 23/05/2017 18:30

What about Roanna?

boobyooby · 23/05/2017 18:30

I prefer the spanish version Ramona.

Romana is a pizza I'm afraid (but Etna Romana is v v tasty )

RedastheRose · 23/05/2017 18:32

😄 I thought if Dr Who too walrus

Yellowblackstripes · 23/05/2017 18:33

Pizza..

witwootoodleoo · 23/05/2017 18:34

Honestly I hate it but it's your baby so my opinion doesn't really matter

CowParsleyNettle · 23/05/2017 18:35

We have one at DS's nursery and she's very cute, plus I don't really go for takeaway pizza. I like it.

Plus Ro is a nice abbreviation.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 23/05/2017 18:35

There was a Romana a year or 2 ahead of me in primary school back in the 80s.

She was weird and had long, greasy black hair.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 23/05/2017 18:35

It's not awful but I prefer Ramona (reminds me of the wonderful Spanish nanny in Cold Feet)

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 23/05/2017 18:36

It's... ok-ish, I suppose? There are definitely worse names. But I don't like it, no.

Rowena however is lovely! Or maybe Ramona?

podstick · 23/05/2017 18:37

If you want honesty then I'm not keen, but I gave way to DH on my choice of names, I liked Danika, he didn't, and I've regretted it ever since. If you really like it go for it.

HeadfirstForHalos · 23/05/2017 18:40

I like it! I am a Doctor Who fan though Smile

It doesn't make me think of pizza any more than the name Josh makes me think of curry, like a pp said. Plus it's different without being different

Dawnedlightly · 23/05/2017 18:40

Ramona is lovely!

DramaAlpaca · 23/05/2017 18:41

I quite like it, it's pretty.

The pizza association that others have mentioned went right over my head.

googietheegg · 23/05/2017 18:41

I think it's fabulous!

MikeUniformMike · 23/05/2017 18:42

Romana is ok. Sorry, but Romy-Anna is horrendous.
