The honest truth on this name

So I really like the name Romana and so does DH. I know my family will hate it though because I'm predictably weird with my choices for everything in life. I know it's not completely out there but it's more unique than most names, at least in Blighty. I think it has more following in Slovenia, Czech Republic and a few other countries.

How do you guys feel about it?

I know there are alternatives: Rowenna, Rowena, Rosalina, Ramona etc but I'm not taken. It has to be Romana.

I guessed, and got it wrong. .

I do think Romana is a nice name - it sounds very grown-up, to me.

Iris65 · 23/05/2017 19:49

I don't like it. But its not my baby.

CocoLoco87 · 23/05/2017 19:51

I wonder if people would call her Ramona by accident a lot? I know a Carolyn who always gets called Caroline because people are more used to the name Caroline...

I like Romana though Smile

ScarletSienna · 23/05/2017 19:52

I liked it and it felt familiar but then I realised that my love for pizza is obviously in my sub conscious at all times. I still like it but the pizza link may put me off

Thumbcat · 23/05/2017 19:52

I think it's fine. Romy would be a cute shortening. There are far worse 'mainstream' names IMO.

mistermagpie · 23/05/2017 19:52

I know one, she is two and gets called Roma. I really like the name.

Ramona (similar) was on my list but DH vetoed it.

DarkFloodRises · 23/05/2017 19:52

I know a Romana - she's in her 40s. I like it.

Minnie747 · 23/05/2017 19:53

Roma is great. Romana is a pizza 🍕

CricketRuntAndRashers · 23/05/2017 19:53

I love Ramona (why didn't I think of this name up to now?). Not a fan of Romana. But I don't like Roman either... So.

mistermagpie · 23/05/2017 19:54

If it's Roma you like I know a Rosemary who gets called Roma.

MissJSays · 23/05/2017 20:08

Not keen, it's your baby though! X

breadwidow · 23/05/2017 20:10

Though I'm not mad on the name I know a Ramona (Italian parents I think) - ex work colleague. She's bloody lovely so I say go for it Smile

winglesspegasus · 23/05/2017 20:10

just so you know romona is a new computer network just released
may want to take that into consideration too

Muddlingalongalone · 23/05/2017 20:13

I don't like it and thought pizza express too I'm afraid, followed closely by moana. Love Removal though

FatOldBag · 23/05/2017 20:17

What about Rumana? I had a friend at school called Rumana, it's a Bangladeshi name. Romana is fine too imo, but I don't really do pizza so wouldn't really know if it was one - Margerita is a pizza and also a name (isn't it?) so I'd go for it OP.

midsomermurderess · 23/05/2017 20:36

Romana D'Annunzio was a Blue Peter presenter in the 1990s. I like it.

29Palms · 23/05/2017 20:39

I can't see anything wrong with Romana at all. I like it, it's elegant and classical sounding.

I also thought of the Doctor Who assistant/Time Lady from years back, and that's fine too.

Oh, except it was short for Romanadvoratrelundar Grin

Epipgab · 23/05/2017 21:38

Dr Who.

It's a nice-sounding name though, and you sound pretty set on it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/05/2017 21:45

I like it, along with Romany (Romy), which I prefer.
There's also Romilly, which is similar.

buttercup54321 · 23/05/2017 21:58

Really dislike it.

CatSittingMonkey · 23/05/2017 22:02

UntilTheCowsComeHome Did we go to the same school?

I came on to post the same thing. The Romana at my primary school was also a little strange but actually really sweet and terribly shy and had really long, black, oily hair.

I like the name though OP.

DuggeeHugs · 24/05/2017 00:36

I've not heard Romana before but it sounds nice.

I'm also unaware of the pizza connection.

SuperBeagle · 24/05/2017 02:13

She'll get called Ramona all the time.

And I much prefer Ramona.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/05/2017 02:19

I like Romana. It means Roman though (as in Pax Romana). Is anyone Roman? Or Italian?
