Hi ladies. I've lurked for ages but now I'm finally pregnant have decided to join!

I've a while to go, but dreamt around 5 months ago (before I was even pregnant) of the name Dixie for a girl and havent been able to shake it since.

My partner likes it too but I'm not sure if it's just the fact I dreamed of it taking over for me. Also toying with Daisy.

Honest thoughts please? Surname is Dark if that helps!!

Dotty is definitely short for Dorothy.

And it's awful.

OpalTree · 21/05/2017 22:17

I know a Charlotte who is known as Dot. It suits her. No one we know thinks it's awful or is horrified that she has a nn that should be for Dorothy.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 21/05/2017 23:02

I like Dotty Dark. And Dorothy, Dahlia and Dora Dark.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/05/2017 23:31

Daphne Dark is sweet.

Dixie makes me think of music.

squishee · 21/05/2017 23:40

Aren't dixies also those prefab toilet blocks for construction sites etc.?

Elbi · 21/05/2017 23:46

I actually rather like Dixie and think it's v memorable with Dark. Have been considering Delta myself if you're still keen on D names.

I think Damaris is a nice 'D' name?

PointlessUsername · 22/05/2017 00:54

I prefer Trixie to Dixie.

How about Dezure Dark?

Dixiestamp · 22/05/2017 01:41

Well, given my username I have to say go for it!!

Newmanwannabe · 22/05/2017 03:02

I work with a Duchie. I don't know if that's short for anything. It goes better with Dark than Dixie

MiniMaxi · 22/05/2017 06:00

Prefer Daisy to Dixie

Dashiell (Dash) Dark for a boy?

twattymctwatterson · 22/05/2017 06:49

Sorry OP. I think ALL of the alliterative options sound porny.

lrliml · 22/05/2017 07:36

Isn't Dixie a teletubby?

Marv1nGay3 · 22/05/2017 07:46

Dulcie is nice too.

rizlett · 22/05/2017 07:54

Dixie is cute - even for any age - my mum's 'stage' name is dixie - i think it was her nickname as a child.

Even shortening to Dix is fine.

I like Dominic Dark. Though maybe Dix and Dom is a bit much. Grin

Dixiestamp · 22/05/2017 08:01

That's Dipsy, IrlimI!!

ColourfulOrangex · 22/05/2017 08:02

I love Dixie and I think it goes better with Dark but that could be because Daisy Dark kind of reminds me of Daisy Duck...although that's probably just me Smile

ColourfulOrangex · 22/05/2017 08:04

Oh no just seen @talulahbeige made he same connection :)

Badliar · 22/05/2017 08:08

Some of the suggestions are worse than Dixie.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 22/05/2017 08:17

Btw, I agree with pp's.

Dixie reminds me of the Dixie Chicks and their comments about Bush/the Iraq war, the civil war and a few other songs...

(and now I'm stuck singing "I wish I was in Dixie" in my head... I think we may have learned weird stuff in High School...)

Lemondrop99 · 22/05/2017 09:48

Penny Dark sounds great. I'd go with Penelope (nn Penny)

I think Dark is a fab surname!

StatelessPrincess · 22/05/2017 11:38

Agree completely with JoanRamone I also think Dixie Dark sounds like a pornstar, sorry. Beatrix Dark is great though.

lrliml · 22/05/2017 12:38

@Dixiestamp haha oh yes so it is, opps!

Mollie85 · 22/05/2017 17:10

Della Dark
Dulcie Dark
Dahlia Dark

I do like alliteration but find they sound a bit cartoonish? (No offence meant at all there, my surname is much worse Grin )

Conversely, the Beatrix I know goes by "bix" or "bixie" ... you'd still get the sound if you went for this and weren't so keen on Trixie?

Congrats on your pregnancy Flowers
