Hi ladies. I've lurked for ages but now I'm finally pregnant have decided to join!

I've a while to go, but dreamt around 5 months ago (before I was even pregnant) of the name Dixie for a girl and havent been able to shake it since.

My partner likes it too but I'm not sure if it's just the fact I dreamed of it taking over for me. Also toying with Daisy.

Honest thoughts please? Surname is Dark if that helps!!

Daisy Duck is a good point actually.

LurkerNoLonger · 21/05/2017 21:05

Oh no Sad I didn't even realise Donald had a girlfriend called Daisy!

Agree with Bad about the longer names: I think three syllables also works, as in

Susannah Dark
Fiona Dark
Delilah Dark if you definitely want a D name!

Sunbeam18 · 21/05/2017 21:08

Dolores Dark! Dolly for short!

Also agree re a long name with your surname. Elizabeth Dark sounds cool.

bugaboo218 · 21/05/2017 21:14

Dixie is cute on a two, three or.four year old, but not on a tween or.teen.when.kids can be cruel and it will be shortened to Dix or Dick(s)! Daisy, Dottie, Delilah and Deanna are all better alternative D names.IMO

EtonMessi · 21/05/2017 21:17

I didn't even realise Donald had a girlfriend called Daisy!

I call troll GrinWink

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/05/2017 21:19

OP, you sound lovely & very reasonable.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/05/2017 21:20

How could anyone inflict Dotty / Dottie on a child? It's the same as calling them Dippy or Dafty.

SuperBeagle · 21/05/2017 21:21

I don't mind Dixie, but I think it's awful with the surname Dark.

It sounds porney.

Daisy is much better.

SexandDrugsandaNiceCuppa · 21/05/2017 21:24

There's a Dixie in DD's class, she's a lovely kid and no-one teases her about her name. It really suits her too.

CakesRUs · 21/05/2017 21:24

Congratulations! I mean this with complete good intentions, but Dixie Dark sound like a porn star name. I prefer Daisy.

BuzzKillington · 21/05/2017 21:24

Atrocious.

Hth.

NataliaOsipova · 21/05/2017 21:26

I know someone called Dixie, so I'm used to it - and actually quite like it. But it always makes me think of that "I wish I was in the land of Cotton", US Confederate Civil War song.

NataliaOsipova · 21/05/2017 21:27

Just seen the Dark surname. No to Dixie Dark - sorry.....

OpalTree · 21/05/2017 21:28

Mumzypopz · 21/05/2017 21:33

I think matching first letters on first name and surname is crazy. Dixie Dark, Harry Hughes, Sienna Smith......just crazy. Why not just go the whole hog.....mangie Muppet...

MissTakesOurMaid · 21/05/2017 21:34

I think you need a longer name to balance out the surname.

Penelope Dark - shortened to Nell, Nellie, Polly?
Georgiana Dark
Emmeline Dark - Emmy?
Imogen Dark
Eleanor Dark
Katherine Dark - Katy, Kath, Kat, Kathy..
Isabella Dark
Charlotte Dark - Charlie, Lottie?

The alliterative name sounds a bit too cartoonish!

MissTakesOurMaid · 21/05/2017 21:36

But if you're adamant on a D first name:

Daniella Dark
Dodie Dark
Daphne Dark (love this one tbh!)
Dorothy Dark (Dot, Dottie)
Doris Dark
Delilah Dark

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/05/2017 21:42

Delphine (Delphie) Dark.

Desiree (Desi) Dark.
Demelza (Demi)Dark.
I like Dixie and Daisy too.

WomanScorned · 21/05/2017 21:42

DS was to have been Dixie, were he a girl.

I wanted a plaque for her bedroom door Dixieland :)

I think it's a great name.

I've never heard DS (7) or any of his friends mocking another child's name. It's perfectly usual to have an unusual name.

I love it, OP.

Epipgab · 21/05/2017 22:00
