twocockers · 11/05/2017 21:41

How on earth is that pronounced Shay?

Ipigglemustdie · 11/05/2017 21:41

A lifetime of saying "no its pronounced shay" 😁

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2017 21:42

I think you should just spell it Shay, tbh.

HildaOg · 11/05/2017 21:42

No. Don't give the kid a name they'll forever have to correct people on. Nobody would guess Shay from that spelling.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/05/2017 21:42

In what language is that pronounced Shay?! Confused

Buttercupsandaisies · 11/05/2017 21:43

Shey can be shay or Chey even but defo not chelly - not even remotely similar!

JaxingJump · 11/05/2017 21:43

They will be Shelley everywhere they go.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 11/05/2017 21:43

I've just Googled. The name of a canyon in Arizona with Navajo origins?

4yoniD · 11/05/2017 21:43

How on earth do you get from Shay to Chelly?

ememem84 · 11/05/2017 21:43

Chey could just about be pronounced shay.

Don't do it.

mammmamia · 11/05/2017 21:44

Can you confirm if that's a different language spelling? What's wrong with Shay? I know a couple of little girls called Shay. It's nice.

2014newme · 11/05/2017 21:44

It's not pronounced shay!
😂😂😂
But thanks for the laugh
How about John but pronounced Dave?

SolemnlyFarts · 11/05/2017 21:45

Also, Shay is a man's name (Irish nickname of Seamus/James), so she would sound like a boy too...

2014newme · 11/05/2017 21:45

The shay I know is a boy.

littlepooch · 11/05/2017 21:45

Err no. Call her shay if you like shay.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 11/05/2017 21:45

Just like Margaret is in fact pronounced Roger.

PurpleDaisies · 11/05/2017 21:45

I don't get it.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 11/05/2017 21:46

What?! Or can I suggest Gary but pronounced as Cuthbert

Dfg15 · 11/05/2017 21:46

Ridiculous

Have to agree with everyone else.
Is it from another language, from your culture?
Will you be living amongst English speakers?
Would it not be FAR less annoying for him to just be called Shay if that's what you want to call him ?

Or even Che (with an accent on ?)

I mean, I really don't like the name Shay, but that's personal choice. It's the spelling one way and pronouncing another I can't get my head round.

Mermaidinthesea123 · 11/05/2017 21:47

2014 you are a very bad lady Grin

Give the kid a break, imagine the lifetime of official form filling mistakes.
Any of these names are ok pronounced as they are spelt, I quite like Shey but spelled Shelly.....facepalm to infinity.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/05/2017 21:48

If I saw that written down. I'd think it was pronounced Shelley short for Michelle.
If you want it pronounced Shay there are lots of interesting ways to spell it without resorting to being daft.
Shae
Shai
Shay
Chae
Chay.
Chai

Ratatatouille · 11/05/2017 21:48

How about John but pronounced Dave? 😂😂

I can guarantee that not one single person who reads that name will ever instinctively know that it's pronounced as Shay. Your child will have to correct everyone and it will get right on their tits. And everyone will think it's just idiotic that you chose to spell it that way rather than thinking it's cool or quirky. Sorry to be harsh OP but that is honestly what I predict.

Maudlinmaud · 11/05/2017 21:48

I know a Shea, pronounced Shay. It's pretty common here.
