I would pronounce Chelly with a hard ch (like the start of change or cello) so Ch-elly to rhyme with Jelly.

While I do find that interesting I still wouldn't do it to a child.

Why would anyone want to do this to a child. Seriously, no, never, ever.

If you want to call,your child a name that sounds like Shay, I would spell it Shay - of all the ways you might be able to spell it (or something like it), this is the clearest and most sensible.

Incidentally, chai is not pronounced shay - it is pronounced wih the ch sound from chip, and the ai pronounced as eye so you get ch-eye.

This is on a par with Elle pronounced Ellie. 😂

But Emme is pronounced Emmie.

Shay is a nice name.

I suppose you could go for "Pronounced-Shay" as a middle name?

You should spell it Gertrude but pronounced Shay.
