Has Alison had it's day?

Opinions on the name Alison?

Trying very hard to think of names with DH (6 weeks to go...) and we both quite like this name but don't know if it's too dated without having the 'old school cool' feel?

It's also the name of a close family member, and the middle name of another family member who passed away recently so would have some sentimental value.

Thoughts?

Alice is much fresher. You could still get Allie for short.

It's dated, but I'd rather hear of a little Alison than another Lily or Ava.

I really like it. There are lots of Alices. It's a great name.

It's a bit dated, but not in a bad way. The youngest Alison I know is in her early 20s. I love that it's a fairly modern sounding name but is actually really old, it was popular in the middle ages. So you could say it's an underused classic. I like it a lot.

That's my name. I meet many many Alisons in their 40s and 50s - but hardly ever any who are younger.

I actually quite like it as a name now - the main thing I hated when I was growing up was how bloody many of us there were.

If you do go down that route just don't spell it Allison or Alyson ..

It's very dated but it's a lovely name. I'd say if you like it, go for it.

It is less common now, but given that the shortened forms (Ali, for example) are still used, it really adds a nice classic twist to a common nickname. I really like it!

Id say its had its day in a sense of being dated rather than popularity such as Freya Ava Ruby Isla ect, but. There's no law that a "dated" name can not be given a revival. On a personal level I don't like Alison. However it would sound very refreshing in a class full of names mentioned above

I would think of an older person when hearing the name. I do know an Alicen who is my age though (31).

I know of 2 babies called Alison. Both are very cute. Neither are mine.

I think Alison, Caroline, Christine, Helen, and so on are NEARLY due for a revival. Maybe in the next ten years or so.....:)

My sister is alison, we call her Ali. She is 30 this year. I think it's nice.

Ah, the positivity has really helped! We've only got one other name for a girl so at least we may have 2 t choose from.

We don't actually know what we are having so now need to work on boys names...

I agree with Norks. It will be back with a vengeance in a generation. You could be a trendsetter!
(like the Outnumbered parents with their anachronistic Karen, who really would have been Chloe/Alice/Emily/Olivia/Grace or the other top 10 /5 in a class names!
