Has Alison had it's day?

Opinions on the name Alison?

Trying very hard to think of names with DH (6 weeks to go...) and we both quite like this name but don't know if it's too dated without having the 'old school cool' feel?

It's also the name of a close family member, and the middle name of another family member who passed away recently so would have some sentimental value.

Thoughts?

It's lovely.

PaperdollCartoon · 30/04/2017 22:24

I only know one Alison, she's the same age as me - 28/29. It's uncommon now but I wouldn't say dated, and as others have said much better than ANOTHER Isla/Ava/Amelie.

HeyRoly · 30/04/2017 22:29

It feels like a 70s/80s name for me, which (in my mind) is recent enough to feel dated and not retro enough to be due a resurgence.

forfuckssakenet · 30/04/2017 22:34

No way Navy! It's much trendier than those!

I love it. It's a gorgeous name and so is Ali as a nn. Go for it!

fruityb · 30/04/2017 22:35

I always thought it was pretty and knew a few at school. Alice is lovely as well.

BIWI · 30/04/2017 22:39

I think it's the best name in the world Wink

SleepForTheWeek · 30/04/2017 22:47

Roly that was my dear

BIWI are you slightly biased??

I prefer Alice. Ali is nice

annandale · 30/04/2017 23:30

Alison is a gorgeous name but it will be unusual in a bit of a dated way just now. I love it though. You could go fashion-forward with the middle name?

EllaNB · 30/04/2017 23:52

I disagree with Navy and do not think it's in the same group of names such as Paula or Diane.

I like the name Alison and don't think it is that dated, or if it is then it is being revived.

There is a popular TV show aimed at the younger generation called Pretty little Liars and one of the lead characters is called Alison and she is in her teens on the show.

SuperBeagle · 01/05/2017 00:43

Alison is in her 20s on PLL.

AlcoholAndIrony · 01/05/2017 00:45

I like it

abbey44 · 01/05/2017 00:50

It's my name too and I like it, either in full or Ali for short. I don't think it's dated at all - more of a timeless classic.

Or maybe that's wishful thinking....!

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/05/2017 00:57

Alison was a favourite of mine, for family reasons. I think it's lovely and if you like it go for it

Scribblegirl · 01/05/2017 01:00

I wouldn't go Alison because my 50-something auntie is one - but I know a Scottish Alison my age (28) and also really warmed to the name during the tv programme The Affair, I like it.

StillHungryy · 01/05/2017 01:39

I like it - and that's odd to say on a baby names thread, you could always have a girl called Theodora bear Grin

SleepForTheWeek · 01/05/2017 07:18

Loving the love for Alison!

Baby Alison doesn't sounds quite right though! I do like the nn Ali, and one of my favourite nursery rhymes to sing is Ally Bally Bee

Rockaby · 01/05/2017 07:24

I love it! I love the nn Ally. So cute.

grasspigeons · 01/05/2017 07:29

It's a really pretty name.
