Emmanuelle first impressions?

First impressions on Emmanuelle? It's the only girl's name so far that DH & I both like, but the few Emmanuelle's we've known have been French and I'm not confident it works outside French culture? We don't have French heritage btw. Nickname probably Emmy.

I think it's lovely! It's quite fancy but I like a frilly name :)

I had a lovely French friend when I was in my twenties whose name was Emmanuelle (sometimes shortened to 'Manu'). Also thought of the porn films, but I suspect I, and most others who have that association, are of a certain age and I can't imagine anyone will have heard of the films by the time she grows up (except properly old people ). It's a lovely name. They shouldn't be allowed to use lovely names in horrible films

I like it, but I do immediately associate it with the porn films. A friend of mine has it as a middle name, and for years wouldn't say what the initial "E" of her middle name stood for because she was embarrassed about the porny connotations. A shame really because it's a pretty name.

Oh and I'm under 30 but saw Emmanuel in Space on movies4men or similar as a late teen

The first Emmanuelle film starred Marlon Brando so were very high profile in the early 1970s. Probably very tame by the standards of Grey etc these days. haven't seen them myself.

I know a boy called it. Calling his name is just awkward. It doesn't suit him as I'm not entirely sure who it suits. It doesn't go well in our accent. Its a no from me, its not a bad name, just awkward sounding if that makes sense?!

One of DDs friends is Gabriella (Ella.) I think my only hesitation over Gabrielle is it's likely to be shortened to gabby which I just don't really like But then, I DO really like Emmanuelle.

As a name itself I think its OK (if you are not French). If you are French I think it is lovely.
