I like Ria!

honeyapple · 26/02/2007 19:58

Fashion in names is a funny thing- I mean Ruby is now in the top ten. (I love the name Ruby- but there are now TOO many about!) and I keep hearing Tallulah...

puppydavies · 26/02/2007 20:00

any other choices? heh.

lleucu (welsh ll, rhymes with flakey )

It is all about fashion and soap stars (especially Alfie and Ruby!) - and in a few years time everyone will have forgotton the Coronation Street character Rita.

belgo · 26/02/2007 20:02

puppydavies - now that I would have even more problems saying!

puppydavies · 26/02/2007 20:02

or lorelei

puppydavies · 26/02/2007 20:02

Where does Lorelei come from?

honeyapple · 26/02/2007 20:04

Lorelei was on my list when PG with DD!
We finally decided on Matilda- but had to wait for her to come out to make this decision!
(Now I keep hearing loads of Matildas about- grrr!)

AnnabelCaramel · 26/02/2007 20:04

Isn't Lorelei another name for Syrens or mermaids or something? Has 'bad woman' connotations to me!

belgo · 26/02/2007 20:06

I like Lorelei.

twinklingstar · 26/02/2007 20:08

Lleucu is pretty, puppydavies. But outside of Wales people have a hard time getting the ll sound right, unfortunately! You have the right idea giving a sound-alike to describe how

(I love Irish names too, folk can't spell them half the time, even if they can pronounce them! LOL)

fishie · 26/02/2007 20:09

i had a guinea pig called rita people are funny about names, bit like clothes i suppose, some prefer to be in fashion others want to look a bit different.

i think its a nice name, looks good written down, pleasing to say. i'd probably go for the full marguerita for versality, its a daisy isn't it?

Bodkin · 26/02/2007 20:48

I think Rita is great. You are just ahead of your time. The rule of thumb is that names skip a generation - so currently, all those granny names are cool - lily, elsie, freda etc. Rita is a slightly different generation, so will be done to death in about 10-15 years time! Get it now while it's still unusual I say!

Lorelei is also gorgeous.

puppydavies · 26/02/2007 21:08

margerita wouldn't work as too similar to dd's name, plus would sound ridiculous with surname. didn't know freda was cool now - never heard anyone else use it, is dd's middle name.

you're right, i'm looking to the next set of names aftr the mollys and the lilys, searching for the gems amongst the joyces and mavises

expatinscotland · 26/02/2007 21:15

lleucu not a serious proposition thanks to pronunciation issues, though i do love it.

lorelei mostly after the pogues song, yes all drowning hapless sailors, a good role model i feel but worried is a bit obscure and would need constant explaining how you spell/pronounce it. plus how would it get shortened? laurel? laurrie? laura? not over-keen on any of those...

Oh god, no!!

WanderingTrolley · 26/02/2007 21:28

really don't like the name, sorry.

BUT!

a friend recently had a child and told me the name. Luckily, she told me via text, so she didn't witness my eyeballs ping out of my head and my corpse-awakening cry of

OH DEAR GOD NOOOOO!!!!! THAT'S THE WORST FECKIN NAME I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!! WHY FOR THE LOVE OF ELVIS WHHHHYYYYYY!!!

Then I met new baby, who is totally gorge, and I can kind of see her carrying it off.

Still not lovin' the name, but it made me think.

PS have you thougth of Edna?
