Wulfric or Elias?

Cuppaqueen · 29/12/2016 01:39

Ok, my husband and I are totally stuck on a name for our baby boy due in April. We like unusual (but not trendy/made-up) names, especially old English/ Scandinavian. Help! What do you genuinely think of our favourites?

Wulfric (Wulf for short)
Elias (Eli for short)

These are the two front-runners right now. Also considering:

Nathaniel (but what would the nickname be? I don't like Nate or Nathan)
Isaac (possibly Zac for short)
Alaric (but he'd end up Al, just like Alan, I guess)

Other suggestions welcome - no T or P names due to initials not going with our surnames.

Thank you!!! Smile

Wulfric definitely!

Elias sounds a bit wimpy!

GreatBritishBakeOff · 29/12/2016 01:53

Neither! Sorry Op, I'd be a bit Hmm if I met anyone named either of those names...

Nathaniel is nice though, maybe the nickname could be Ani or Niel?

DementedUnicorn · 29/12/2016 02:21

I like Elias.

Wulfric is a bit too Dumbledore for me and I have Harry Potter tattoos

Scabetty · 29/12/2016 02:34

Elias.

I like Wulfric. Elias is a bit weak. Wulf is a fabulous name.

Normandy144 · 29/12/2016 03:03

I like Elias, Isaac and Nathaniel. You could use Nat for Nathaniel. Not sure I'd bother shortening Isaac as it is short enough. I do like Zac as the short version of Zachary/Zachariah.

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/12/2016 06:28

My favourite is Elias.

Others:
Wilfred
Cuthbert
Edmund
Torsten

Riversiderunner · 29/12/2016 06:29

Neither! Too try-hard!

myoriginal3 · 29/12/2016 06:43

I don't like either name.

NinjaLeprechaun · 29/12/2016 06:51

I like Wulfric. You could use either Wulf or Ric as a nickname.
Ric can be short for Aleric as well.

talkshowhost97 · 29/12/2016 06:51

I really like Elias, relatively unusual without being weird or hard to say/spell. I know a 4 year old Elias and it really suits him.

Wulfric is pretty dreadful IMO.

Your other names are ok.

MissWimpyDimple · 29/12/2016 06:59

Wulfric is pretty bad. I would think you had tried a bit too hard with that one. Plus it would be great if it suited him but it might not.

Elias is ok. Nathaniel is good. Nat or Natty would be nice

Pluto30 · 29/12/2016 07:19

Wulfric = Dumbledore

Elias. I prefer Elliot though.

LotsoNumbers · 29/12/2016 07:36

Cuthbert? Fucking CUTHBERT?

I prefer Wulfric out of your names op

user1477282676 · 29/12/2016 07:38

Lotso Your reaction has me laughing so hard. Grin

LotsoNumbers · 29/12/2016 07:41

Honestly though, who looks at their beautiful newborn and thinks....Yeah....Cuthbert Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/12/2016 07:44

Wulfric. Love Wulf.

BikeRunSki · 29/12/2016 07:54

I like Elias.
I love Nathaniel - could be Nat?

Otto?
Silas?
Thor?
Anders?

RobinSnood · 29/12/2016 07:55

Neither. Isaac/Zac is great though.

Artandco · 29/12/2016 07:58

Alaric
Or
Eric

mistermagpie · 29/12/2016 08:00

Neither. What about Anders? I know a baby one and it's really cute. Or Magnus if you like Scandinavian names?

Elias is okaaaaay, just. But Wulfric? Confused

Staranise123 · 29/12/2016 08:24

Wulfric - classic and strong.

I don't like Elias much

Cuppaqueen · 29/12/2016 08:25

Thanks guys! I'd forgotten that Wulfric was one of Dumbledore's names - damn. Also husband has pointed out 3 syllables goes better with our surname. So Elias and Nathaniel now in the lead (although Wulfric will be the one that got away Sad).

I'd love a Thor but hubby vetoed that early doors! With Lotsa on Cuthbert - not a fan, ha ha. Javier? Or is that too Spanish for a couple with no family connection to Spain?

What about Wolfgang? Or Wolfric instead of a U (both are considered proper spellings) it reads better to me, not sure why.

RobinSnood · 29/12/2016 08:34

Anders is really nice.
