Wulfric or Elias?

Ok, my husband and I are totally stuck on a name for our baby boy due in April. We like unusual (but not trendy/made-up) names, especially old English/ Scandinavian. Help! What do you genuinely think of our favourites?

Wulfric (Wulf for short)
Elias (Eli for short)

These are the two front-runners right now. Also considering:

Nathaniel (but what would the nickname be? I don't like Nate or Nathan)
Isaac (possibly Zac for short)
Alaric (but he'd end up Al, just like Alan, I guess)

Other suggestions welcome - no T or P names due to initials not going with our surnames.

Thank you!!! Smile

I love Elias nn Eli. It's quite trendy right now though. It seems popular as a brother to Noah or Isaac. I think Chris Evans has one.

Loyly · 29/12/2016 08:35

Elias

You like Thor? So, what about Torquil? Thorsten?

I like the name Wulfric. And it's Dumbledore's...3(?) name. According to that logic people shouldn't use Tobias, Jean or James either.

I like Elias and Nathaniel. But Wulfric is awesome.

What about Ulric?

1horatio · 29/12/2016 08:37

Or Erik?

It's a mix between Wulfric and Elias imo ;)

Allalonenow · 29/12/2016 08:37

Wulfric is a great name.

maitaimojito · 29/12/2016 08:41

I really like Elias and Isaac.

JeffStellingsLeftEyebrow · 29/12/2016 08:43

Ivan?

MiniMaxi · 29/12/2016 08:46

If you're into old English / Scandinavian names, for me Wulfric, Erik are more that feel than Nathaniel and Elias sound more Biblical (not sure if they are, officially, though!)

Otherwise...
Arne
Gustav
Finn - quite common now but is an old Norse name
Lars
Edwin
Edmund
Aethelstan Wink

Slight difference between James and Wulfric.

pluto

I know 😉 But I simply think it's ridiculous to worry about Dumbledore's middle names... if somebody hears Wulfric and immediately thinks of Dumbledore then they're most likely a potter fan and wouldn't dislike the association.

Anders is lovely.

Nathaniel
Isaac

SirChenjin · 29/12/2016 11:10

Elias and Nathaniel

Wulfric sounds like something out of Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings.

MissBattleaxe · 29/12/2016 11:11

How about Rufus?

MaudOnceMore · 29/12/2016 11:13

Alaric is great - it was one of the names we had in mind for our DC.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/12/2016 11:14

Nathaniel could be Nat - my great uncle Nathaniel went by Nat from when he was small.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 29/12/2016 11:20

i think it is slightly strange to give someone a name which has a strong association with a different country or heritage unless you've got a family connection. Wulfric is a great name but it sounds very Scandi/Nordic.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/12/2016 11:21

I love Wulfric/Wolfric, and Wolfgang.
Cuthbert 😂😂😂, Lotso, that made me laugh !
Wilbur
Hudson
Huxley
Redmond
Ronson

kawla · 29/12/2016 11:24

Sorry Grin but Wulfric is too Harry Potter and I'm a fan. There seems to be a lot of try-hard names on Mumsnet though

1horatio · 29/12/2016 11:33

Cuthbert is a Harry Potter name as well, btw. It's the name used of professor Binns.

1horatio · 29/12/2016 11:33

used

LotsoNumbers · 29/12/2016 12:35

You'd have to be a real harry potter nut to know that Horatio Grin

ViewBasket · 29/12/2016 12:37

I like Elias, Nathaniel, Alaric and Isaac.

Alaric would be great as it's quite unusual but recognisable.
