Wulfric or Elias?

Ok, my husband and I are totally stuck on a name for our baby boy due in April. We like unusual (but not trendy/made-up) names, especially old English/ Scandinavian. Help! What do you genuinely think of our favourites?

Wulfric (Wulf for short)
Elias (Eli for short)

These are the two front-runners right now. Also considering:

Nathaniel (but what would the nickname be? I don't like Nate or Nathan)
Isaac (possibly Zac for short)
Alaric (but he'd end up Al, just like Alan, I guess)

Other suggestions welcome - no T or P names due to initials not going with our surnames.

Thank you!!! Smile

Thanks everyone - oh, we are still so torn!!

We do have a Scandinavian family connection although surnames are solidly English. Wulfric is old English as far as I know.

I'm not keen on what I (rightly or wrongly) think of as public schoolboy names like Basil, Rupert or Peregrine. Horatio equals Hornblower to me Grin. Quite like Ulric, Erik and Zachary but not as much as the others in my OP.

Maybe Wulfric but with a sensible middle name in case he grows to hate it ...

Not brave enough for Beowulf!!

Nathaniel

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/01/2017 13:14

Neither of them. Sounds like the type of names that Jacob Rees Mogg would give his children.

Cuppaqueen · 26/06/2017 02:38

For those who complain the OP never comes back ... we went with Wulfric! But with a totally unobjectionable middle name just in case he hates it when he grows up Wink. He's Wulfie for short and 100% suits his name - can't imagine anything else now.

Congratulations op. That's very cool!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/06/2017 09:09

Fabulous name, I love it !
Many congratulations 🙋🏼💐🍾⭐️

Unadon · 26/06/2017 13:42

Wulfric - Quite like this one. Dumbledore association is not a negative in my opinion.
Elias - I'm not the biggest fan of this one due to how I've heard it pronounced as E-liars by some people. Confused
Nathaniel - Love this name!
Isaac - I rank it similarly to Nathaniel, though it is a bit more prevalent than that.
Alaric - No clue why but whenever I hear this name, "cleric" comes to mind.

Unadon · 26/06/2017 13:43

Oh dear just saw the date on the OP sorry! Congrats on your boy! Grin

Unadorned Grin

At least you said you quite liked it!! I had plenty worse reactions to my OP but sometimes you just have to go with your heart. My gorgeous little Wulfie is asleep in his cot beside me and all is right with the world.

Wulfie is kind cute and I think the Dumbledore association is kind of cool. Of course, we can only really say if Wulfric was the right decision if we see a photo..... Wink

Mrsknackered · 26/06/2017 14:15

Love Wulfric. I'm not sure about Elias, I really like Elias and Elijah but I've really gone off 'Eli' recently.

Would you consider Leif?

Mrsknackered · 26/06/2017 14:18

Sorry! I just saw your update. Great name OP, congratulations.

Unadon · 26/06/2017 14:21

Cuppaqueen Haha my parents gave me a very unadorned name so I guess it's fitting. Wink Was browsing a couple of threads on here after I replied to this one, and when it came to giving recommendations Wulfric did come to mind so it is one of those names that you grow fonder of the more you think about it, which is an absolute bonus! I'm sure it's perfect for your boy!

Sophronia · 26/06/2017 16:15

Emeric / Emmerich?

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 26/06/2017 16:23

Oh how lovely. DH and I wimped out of our "out there" first choice of boys name, which was Old English, so it's nice to see someone with the courage of their convictions. I'd have gone with Alaric or Ulric personally but Wulfric is great.

Flyingprettycretonnecurtains · 26/06/2017 16:47

Wulfric! Yes! Then he can be woolfie when he is little. I think Wulf is lovely.

Aethelstan? Stan for short?

usernamenonumber · 26/06/2017 17:18

I really like Alaric.
Also Aymeric, but that's French.

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2017 18:03

I have a friend called Alaric (never Al) and it's a great name.

I'm never sure how to pronounce Elias, tbh.

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2017 18:04

Ooops, should have read previous posts. Congrats, OP!

shittymctwatface · 26/06/2017 18:10

What about:
Loki
Aric

They were on my name list

shittymctwatface · 26/06/2017 18:12

If we had another it will be Atticus

altkat · 26/06/2017 23:26

Completely outing but I have a Wolfie asleep next to me too (we went with Wolfgang) Smile it suits him down to the ground and I'm so glad we went with it. Good on you and congrats on Wulfie!

Cuppaqueen · 27/06/2017 06:35

Awww thanks for all the positive comments! Here's a photo of little Wulfie to judge for yourselves if it suits him Grin
