Have thrown spanner in the works- was happy with Lyra or Rudy...

So I've been dead set for what seems like forever that for a girl I like Lyra and for a boy, Rudy. However, have now confused the living daylights out of myself and OH by throwing a few more we both like into the mix... Which do you guys think goes well with a McK surname? (I love Gray as middle name for both genders)

Girls:
Lyra
Juno
Cora
Erin
Dakota

Boys:
Rudy
Cayde
Cohen

Scrap Dakota. We have suddenly come to our senses on that one.

I really like Juno and Erin, from your boys list prefer your original Rudy. Quite a few of the new names you've come up with have an alliterative effect with your surname - is that something you were going for? Fine if so, just thought I'd point it out in case Smile

10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 18:36

I feel like our girls list is stronger too! I do still love Rudy, but am quite liking the alliterative effect of Cohen/Cayde as it rolls nicely off the tongue!

Will you be waiting for a surprise or finding out at the scan? We found it a lot easier to decide when we only had to focus on one name (although still ended up working through our list quite late in the day!)

Meant to say I think Lyra is beautiful too!

10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 18:50

I am too impatient to not find out! So at least we can half the list!

I do think I am feeling Juno Gray and Cora Gray slightly more than the others at the moment.

Rudy is still number 1 for me boy wise, whereas OH is really into Cayde.

I like Erin and Rudy

TheHiphopopotamus · 09/12/2016 19:02

Lyra, Cora and Erin are nice.

Juno Gray puts me in mind of a butch headteacher of an all girls school, possibly in the 1920's.

I don't like any of the boys names, sorry. But this is why I never asked opinions of my dcs name because I didn't want anyone to put me off. If you like it, go for it. Kids tend to grow into their names anyway.

Pixilicious · 09/12/2016 19:02

I like all your girls names now Dakota is off the list, Erin is very popular round here though.

Only like Rudy off your boys list, sorry. What about Jude, is that similar?

TheHiphopopotamus · 09/12/2016 19:03

Also, I'm a bit thick so how are you pronouncing Cayde?

Is Cay-dee

Or Cade? Or something else?

10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 19:05

Hiphop- haha that is the most specific name connotation I have ever heard!! (Still love it though!)

OH is majorly pro Juno and Cayde
I'm slightly more Cora and definitely Rudy.

OP posts:
10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 19:06

Cayde- pronounced Cade with just the one syllable.

OohNoDooEy · 09/12/2016 19:07

I love cohen... now on my list!

I'm not so hot on Lyra as it's a bit like Lycra Grin. I prefer Lila

10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 19:08

Oh god how had I not thought of the Lycra link!!!

OP posts:
TheHiphopopotamus · 09/12/2016 19:10

Ah, ok thanks, I've never heard that before.

I quite like that on then, but if you plumped for that would you be forever asking how it's spelt/pronounced? (Not that that should make a difference but it does get irritating after a bit).

Joinourclub · 09/12/2016 19:13

I'm agree with Cora and Rudy

keekaw · 09/12/2016 19:14

Love Cora McK...
Or Juno

Would definitely stick with Rudy for your boy name

10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 19:17

I'm worried that Cayde has the potential to sound a little chavvy, or am I being silly? It may be that I am much more pro Rudy so am automatically trying to find something wrong with the other boy choices!

I think Cora and Juno are looking like the front runners girl wise.

plimsolls · 09/12/2016 19:20

Cora Gray McK.... is lovely. Cora McK has a nice sound pattern.

Juno is nice. It's very "now" where I live so I don't know if it might date quickly or if it bothers you if it did. It's lovely name though.

I personally am not so keen on Lyra but also I don't think Lyra Gray works very well, it's a little hard to say clearly (might just be me though!)

I like Rudy the best and then Cohen. Not sure about Cayde. Maybe it's the "y" but it doesn't appeal as much as the other two.

10Betty10 · 09/12/2016 19:27

Cora works really well with the McK doesn't it!

I haven't met any Junos- what region are you from? We are East Midlands and nobody I know has even heard it used! I don't mind having a 'non unique' name as let's face it, someone is always going to have it somewhere, but a same time definitely don't want a Lily/Ava/Amelia/Evie/every has it type name. So shout up if Juno is actually super popular and I'm just oblivious guys!

I've only ever met one Cora and she was a lovely, elegant old lady. So I feel like it would be a bit more individual.

Is Cohen a super popular one too? I'm pretty certain Rudy isn't mega popular, but also isn't silly/unheard of.

I've just swung the Rudy choice with OH- looked up meaning- it means 'famed wolf'. Cayde/Cade means 'lumpy and rotund'!!!!

Wolf fame has won out.

Erin and Rudy are my favourites off your list. I love Erin but I can't have it because already in family. I agree Gray is fab for middle name but I never thought of using it for a girl so will be shamelessly stealing that idea!! X
