John - it's due a revival. And you can make it into Johnny, which is nice for a child.

I like both but I know many more Samuels of all ages than I do Johns. Maybe John is due for a comeback?

John is the better of the two. I would second the suggestion of Johnathan and possibly also suggest mark?

Of the two, I prefer Samuel.

I'm not keen on John, but I do like Jonathan.
