I can't tell if it would be silly? I see it suiting all ages!

I have 2 children, who have very classical names, so not sure if it would 'go' anyway.

Please don't do it. It's a 40 year old woman's name

Muzzcub · 04/10/2016 23:34

Ive known three Wendy's in my lifetime and they were all weird and untrustworthy.

ProseccoBitch · 04/10/2016 23:35

Not the best place to ask about the name Wendy! Wink

Buntysoven · 05/10/2016 00:55

That's strange Muzzcub...me too.

Florrieboo · 05/10/2016 06:49

I think it is beautiful.

Longlost10 · 05/10/2016 06:51

It is short for Gwendoline. How about using that, then Wendy for short? Gwendoline/Gwendolyn is classic enough

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 05/10/2016 06:57

I love it. But I haven't seen any baby/child Wendys yet.

jessica29054 · 05/10/2016 07:01

Gwendoline is awful! Wendy was what I wanted to be called as a child. I don't really like it, and Wendy house, Wendy from Peter Pan.

However, you're the third person or so with a retro name.

Maybe they are coming back? I mean, someone had to first say 'what do you reckon to Evie?' didn't they?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/10/2016 09:09

I like it.

ChuckitintheBucket · 05/10/2016 09:11

Definitely due a come back it's a great name.

No, if child grows up to have a very important position in life her name will either help or hinder. I have never heard of a HRH Wendy or even Dame Wendy. A girls name needs to be something beautiful that will carry a person through every event in life without giving the wrong impression. Wendy sounds a bit whimsical. I hate my own name so please be careful.

Freezingwinter · 05/10/2016 09:24

It reminds me of Wendy from Peter pan and I love it!

VixenLupin · 05/10/2016 09:30

Just because you've never heard of a Dame Wendy it doesn't mean there isn't one. A quick google has shown me Dame Wendy Hall, who is also a Professor. Her name doesn't seem to have held her back.

That said, I think the name Wendy has been sullied for Mumsnetters by the phrase "wended" It's certainly the first thing I thought of, but maybe that's because it's on here, not IRL?

No. What is it with the site and ridiculous names. We have had Tracie, Ptolemy and now Wendy in the last 24 hours.

I went to School with a Wendy Howse.

VixenLupin · 05/10/2016 09:39

Ptolemy is a great name. I wish I'd been brave enough to use it for my youngest. It would have been handy to spot MNers! Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 05/10/2016 09:40

It's a bit drippy. Wendy is in her 40s and wears a lot of beige.

Ptolemy is not a great name. It's a mumsnet name. Grin

Gardencentregroupie · 05/10/2016 09:42

ShatnersBassoon I think I knew the exact Wendy you're talking about Smile

juneau · 05/10/2016 09:44

Its my mum's name and anyone I ever meet with that name is 50+ so its really not in fashion at the moment.

Apparently J M Barrie (author of Peter Pan), made it up. Not sure if that's true or not.

Helpisathand13 · 05/10/2016 09:44

Names are personal to us and we pick them based on how they sound and make us feel so it is very rare we would all agree. I had two friends at school both called Wendy, completely different personalities and looks and both great girls!, there's Wendy's the fast food chain in US (we visited whilst there) and Wendy from Peter Pan who is a lovely character-that's what the name Wendy conjures up for me. All good as far as I'm concerned. Good luck choosing a name OP, think what does Wendy say to me?......
