I can't tell if it would be silly? I see it suiting all ages!

I have 2 children, who have very classical names, so not sure if it would 'go' anyway.

It is a middle-aged name, but also it's a bit twee, IMO

I think Sally, Nancy or Lucy are better, along similar lines

WaitrosePigeon · 08/10/2016 20:07

Please don't!

DiegeticMuch · 12/10/2016 18:51

It is a bit frumpy imo.

SpeckledyBanana · 12/10/2016 18:52

Arf. No

MrsMarigold · 30/11/2016 11:39

My DD's middle name is Wendy it's quite sweet, I know a few of various ages, they are always lovely

SmallTownTwirl · 30/11/2016 11:42

Not terrible but not a good choice either.
I like retro names. And Lindy, Zelda and Winnie all have a bit of those sounds but seem to bring something more spirited and glamorous and retro with them.

Wendy is just......... nope. Can't be bother to dig very deep for an opinion on it.

SmallTownTwirl · 30/11/2016 11:46

ps agree with notyoda, Sally and Nancy have a similar feel but are less klunky.

Wendy is a bit like Hilda. It's just not an attractive sound.

I know a Wendy who is about 50 though and she's not drippy. She's always very nice to everybody and is funny and clever.

Crispbutty · 30/11/2016 12:32

I've always disliked my name and seeing how many other people agree on this thread makes me a bit sad. Sad

SmallTownTwirl · 30/11/2016 13:49

Ach Crispbutty, it's like Yvonne or something. I wouldn't think TWICE at an Yvonne or a Wendy aged 45 but if I saw one in a moses basket I'd double take. This thread is like that.

It's like, say, would you be embarrassed if your H was called called Marty or Neill or Keith? No. But not for a baby.

SmallTownTwirl · 30/11/2016 13:50

I feel bad now.

Crispbutty · 30/11/2016 14:12

It's ok.. I've had 46 years to deal with it lol!!! But I'm the most non beige immature 46yr old you could meet haha!! My parents double barrelled it so it's actually Wendy-Anne and they thought they were being unique... There were 5 of us in my year at school.

dogdinner · 30/11/2016 14:18

I quite like it. Think it's cute.

SquirrelWatcher · 30/11/2016 14:23

Vixen I'm showing my name-snob status that my name is in your list with Sharon, Darren, Kevin and Wayne!

Is Claire one of those awful names and I didn't realise?!

Grin
SmallTownTwirl · 30/11/2016 17:03

My parents were going to call me Kerry-Anne, like 'Carry On' said my granddad and saved me from the double barrel!

Heratnumber7 · 30/11/2016 17:04

It makes me think of "Welcome to Jamaica have a nice day".
If you don't know the joke, Google it.

CrumblingTeeth · 30/11/2016 17:23

I like it.

My nan is called Wendy and she's amazing.

I think it will make a comeback. I noticed in this years new nursery class there are a couple of Mabels and an Ethel. Perfectly lovely but old fashioned, like Wendy.

GettingitwrongHauntingatnight · 30/11/2016 17:33

HATE IT. If you like it though use itGrin

user1479835256 · 30/11/2016 21:19

All the Wendy's I know are in their forties and over so surely by MN rules that means it's bang on trend. I know a director of social services who is a Wendy and believe me you wouldn't want to tell her, her name was drippy!

YvaineStormhold · 30/11/2016 21:24

Wendies are usually weird.

It's the only thing that jars about Bruce Springsteen's 'Born To Run'. He's singing it to a character called Wendy, and every time I hear him sing the name it kills the moment stone dead. I imagine Bruce running off into the sunset with a culotted woman who has issues around insecurity and a bad bob.

YvaineStormhold · 30/11/2016 21:26

Oh shit, that'll teach me to RTFT.

Flowers to all Wendies on the thread. Ignore me, I talk shit Blush

user1479835256 · 01/12/2016 18:42

Could be worse, could be Susan

Lucked · 01/12/2016 18:48

The only Wendy I have ever met had officially changed her name because she hated it so much, therefore I have never met a Wendy.

ChuckitintheBucket · 01/12/2016 18:54

I'm not weird, I dont wear culottes, I'm not insecure and I dont have a bob. But hey thanks for that anyway. And I bloody love that Bruce Springsteen track.

EverySongbirdSays · 01/12/2016 19:23

Two people have said that they know 3 weird and untrustworthy Wendys, I know 2, one of whom properly stabbed me in the back. I wonder if any of these 8 Wendys are the same Wendy

Wendy was also the word a good friend of mine used to use for vagina, so there's that.
