I really hate it when people say this, but I'm going to be a hypocrite: I KNOW A DOG CALLED MURPHY

You do sometimes get human names used for pets, but this would be the other way around.

Sorry!

Nellyphants · 21/09/2016 17:23

Nickname Spud?

PotteringAlong · 21/09/2016 17:26

Love Hector!

Stilldreamingofsun · 21/09/2016 17:26

Jeez- relax! People are so mean for no reason! I think it's unique and original. Much more interesting than the thousands of Amelie's and Ava's! It sounds like a cheeky name Grin

AmeliaJack · 21/09/2016 17:35

Hector is an excellent name though.

CancellyMcChequeface · 21/09/2016 18:05

Definitely not.

It's a surname. It's not even, to my mind, a particularly nice-sounding surname. I wouldn't recommend it for a boy, and for a girl it's terrible.

If you really love it, put it in the middle, and give her an actual first name as a first name.

MrsCaecilius · 21/09/2016 18:45

Surname, beer, horse.

Hector is great though!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/09/2016 19:20

Not Murphy for a girl, but Hector is good !

ShowOfHands · 21/09/2016 19:24

A friend has a Murfee.

Hastalapasta · 21/09/2016 19:27

Just named our kitten Murphy after the stout! (it suits him btw)Smile

Donatellalymanmoss · 21/09/2016 19:28

I associate it with male dogs, it seems like an odd choice for a girls name.

SpeckledyBanana · 21/09/2016 19:31

It's a surname.

Whoooodat · 21/09/2016 19:33

Really bad but marginally better than Hector. Hector?!! For a real baby or child or man?

Houseconfusion · 21/09/2016 19:34

Two dogs
1 cat

Chottie · 21/09/2016 19:35

Please no.

Isn't there also a type of potato called Murphy?

lizzieoak · 21/09/2016 19:37

Not a fan of last names as first names, it always sounds a bit naff to me. Do you like the Mur sound? How about Miranda then Mur for short?

quicklydecides · 21/09/2016 19:49

Love it, and I'm Irish, and I think it's really cool.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 21/09/2016 19:52

I love it for either a boy or a girl (although I'm from NI, so likely there the nickname would be spud).

pensivepolly · 21/09/2016 19:59

Murphy is a dog name
Hector is great though

Teddy1970 · 21/09/2016 20:07

Hector is a nice name but Murphy? Don't like it at all I'm afraid, what people tend to forget is that when something is really "of the moment and trendy" such as surnames for forenames they will quickly become really really dated...

Sazzle99 · 21/09/2016 21:41

Also know a male dog called Murphy

RortyCrankle · 21/09/2016 21:50

Murphy is bloody awful as a child's name, doubly so for a girl but Hector is fab.

Sophronia · 22/09/2016 00:28

Love Hector but Murphy for a girl is awful

MephistoMarley · 22/09/2016 05:51

God feeling so sorry for hypothetical little girl called Murphy
Dreadful idea
