I have a Hector and so many people have said they love the name. Maybe I just know nice people though Smile

People can be so rude on here, go with what you want!

SoupDragon · 24/09/2016 07:21

go with what you want!

No, don't just "go with what you want", consider the affect on your unborn child a they are the ones who are going to have to live with your decision. Why saddle them with a shit name? (And I don't mean Hector. Although I am from the Hector's House generation and know no Real Life ones so it will always be a cartoon dog to me!)

FYI I had a little boy last November and we called him Murphy, in our eyes he is perfect (and yes we do call him Smurf as a nick name) Smile

Love it - congratulations!

Kokeshi123 · 11/03/2018 11:22

Murky. Morphine.

And yes, it sounds like a dog's name, sorry. Also, very American.

bridgetreilly · 11/03/2018 13:46

Smurfy.

harrietm87 · 11/03/2018 14:11

Congrats on your son. Hopefully you gave him a good middle name.

I remember this thread! I think I’m on it somewhere, though under a different account.

Congratulations on the arrival of baby (boy) Murphy @op Flowers!

PencilledIn · 11/03/2018 18:44

Awful. I'm Irish and I dislike this much more than I like Kennedy which seems to be used as a first name too. Murphy is just a common sur name but it's used in jokes to denote 'irish person in this joke'. Really think it'd be a bad choice. Delaney, Kinsella, Gillespie, Bellamy,,,, some sur names have a bit of oooh la la! Use one of those!

PencilledIn · 11/03/2018 18:45

Oops

Why doesn't MN have an edit button. What I wanted to say was

Flowers congratulations!

AnyaMoondial · 11/03/2018 19:59

How wonderful! Congratulations op, it's a fab name Flowers

Gacapa · 11/03/2018 21:57

It's not unique. I know a woman called Murphy.

I think it can sound very cool but only with a surname that really goes with it and makes a really ace sounding full name. Like a Bond girl name kind of thing.

abiirthdaycake · 12/03/2018 09:56

I realise this is a zombie thread and the baby has been born (congrats OP) but just out of interest, why do so many of you hate Hector?! Surely it's a pretty common name in a few languages?

pipilangstrumpf · 12/03/2018 15:13

Because of the meaning of the verb 'to hector' and the potential nickname Heck Shock.

EleanorXx · 13/03/2018 00:10

Congrats Flowers. Murphy is lovely
