Name needed for baby girl with health problems

We're expecting dd2. Dd1 is called Sophie.

Top of our list had been Eloise, but our baby has major heart problems and almost certainly downs syndrome as well. And Eloise means 'healthy', so it feels a bit wrong to give her that name.

Any other suggestions?

We like names that are classic, and work well in other European languages, particularly French. More than happy to go with a french name. I would love a name that meant something like 'blessing' or 'miracle' etc.

What about Ellen? Or Ellena. It means bright light

Amelie is lovely. This might sound patronising and I don't mean it to, this is a stressful time for you I imagine, but your love for your daughter shines through your post. We have a son with complex needs and he and his brother are fabulous - the best things ever.

AliceInHinterland · 25/07/2016 21:09

Another vote for Mirielle

I know a baby Arianne, which afaik is a traditionally French name. I'd not heard it before and thought it's a lovely name.

Some great names here :)

Love Mirielle but I'd be worried about pronunciation.

We have Charlotte on our long list! Dd1 was very nearly called it!

Love Grace, but we went with it as a middle name for Dd1.

I do like flower names as well :)

My DD1 is called Georgia, which means farmer
My friend's DD is called Leah, which means cow (I think)
If you feel really particularly uncomfortable about the meaning of Eloise, then I would go for Elodie, but Eloise is a beautiful name and if you love it, I would go for it and sod the meaning. Good luck Flowers

Liz09 · 25/07/2016 21:16

Lucy means "light" or "bright". I think that's lovely. Smile

Buggers · 25/07/2016 21:18
