Name needed for baby girl with health problems

We're expecting dd2. Dd1 is called Sophie.

Top of our list had been Eloise, but our baby has major heart problems and almost certainly downs syndrome as well. And Eloise means 'healthy', so it feels a bit wrong to give her that name.

Any other suggestions?

We like names that are classic, and work well in other European languages, particularly French. More than happy to go with a french name. I would love a name that meant something like 'blessing' or 'miracle' etc.

Actually pronunciation is a good point, a lot of people with DS have speech problems so why go for a more difficult name, she might struggle to introduce herself. I am also thinking of my cousin who was given a companion dog with name he could hardly say.

Mae, Alice, Tanya, Mary, Ruby, Tina, Sophie are all good, short simple sounds.

moreshit I hear what you say! We could give it as a hopeful name ... could be that in 18 months time she's had successful surgery and is a healthy girl, with or without downs syndrome.

I love Violet, it was also my lovely granny's name. Unfortunately, she hated it!

Love Felicity, it also has a family connection. But dh has ruled it out :(

Btw my Eloise has health problems (discovered after naming) but I've never regretted giving her that name. I wouldn't have wanted to give her a second choice name because of her health issues iyswim?

Great name choice minipie!

It's a bit macabre, but I want a definite alternative should baby not make it or be very poorly at the start.

I certainly won't take Eloise off the list altogether.

Another vote for Felicity, maybe DH will be swayed Smile

Or other favourites are Corinna, Saskia, Miranda, they all go well with Sophie.

Katie

SugarMiceInTheRain · 25/07/2016 21:47

Elodie, Charlotte or Isabelle would be lovely with Sophie. I had Elodie, Charlotte and Amelie on my girls' shortlist.

Aimee would also work, and be very apt (being French for loved)

Good luck pinning your DH down - having a sensible discussion with DH was the hardest thing about choosing baby names IME - eventually I said - this is my favourite name, what do you think? Grin

All the best with your lovely little girl Thanks

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 25/07/2016 21:48

How about Tara? It means 'star'

DailyFaily · 25/07/2016 21:51

I would stick with Eloise if you love the name, I dont think people pay that much attention to name meanings beyond a passing interest

chocoLit · 25/07/2016 21:54

Eden

LuluJakey1 · 25/07/2016 21:54

Ella - all, everything
Naomi- my delight
Louisa - strong, fighter

emwithme · 25/07/2016 21:55

It's actually Mireille (Mi-ray, with a french accent, obvs - hopefully you get what I mean!) rather than Mirielle (which I'd pronounce Mirri-elle)

What about Elodie or Fleur?
