Just that really.... How would you rank these names?

Nina
Margot
Evelyn
Lainey

Nina is my favourite, and Margot and Evelyn are ok. Not so keen on Lainey, it sounds like it would be better as a nickname.

The other names are lovely, but I really don't like Lainey at all.

JingsAndCrivens · 29/01/2016 15:39

Margot
Lainey
Evelyn
Nina

OP Lainey is most un-Mumsnet, so prepare for horrified reactions to it. I quite like it though!

NotJanine · 29/01/2016 15:46

Is Lainey an actual name? It sounds like a nickname for Elaine.

SummerMonths · 29/01/2016 16:10

Lainey, is my husband's grandmother's name and she recently passed away. It's not my favourite name but she was a fabulous woman.

Oops, stray comma there

I love margot and lainey! I personally think go for names you like not other people. You're the one who will be saying it forever Smile

Herrerarerra · 29/01/2016 16:15

Nina is fab!!
Lainey (I know a lovely Elaine who prefers to be called Lainey)
Evelyn

Margot is not nice at all.

SummerMonths · 29/01/2016 16:17

I personally love Matila but DH doesn't.

My second favourite is Nina.

DH really wants Lainey to honour his grandmother. It does not fit with the names of our other children but I can see why he wants it.

Margot
Evelyn
Nina
Lainey (is this a name??)

Angeladelight · 29/01/2016 16:26

Margot
Nina
Evelyn
Lainey

I don't think Lainey is awful at all but the over names are much nicer. I think Margot may be a bit more unusual too :)

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 29/01/2016 17:01

Nina Lainey surname then :)

QuietWhenReading · 29/01/2016 17:04

Ah, that makes a difference then (I admit that I am biased against the name by a dreadful Lainey at school)

How about Nina Laine? That sounds quite nice.

DontKillMyVibe · 29/01/2016 17:33

Perhaps Lainey as a middle name to honour grandmother rather than as a first name?

HortonWho · 29/01/2016 17:38

Lainey is a nickname for Helena. (Or Hellleeiiiiina as some pronounce with American accent) It's the americanised version of the diminutive Leni and Heleni ( in German and Slavic languages but in English, it sound more like the boys' name Lenny).

NotJanine · 29/01/2016 17:40

Did his GM have a middle name that you prefer? Or would her maiden name work as a first name?

StayGoldPonyBoy · 29/01/2016 17:43

I love Nina and Margot.

Evelyn I don't mind but I really don't like Lainey. My cousin went to school with twins called Lenny and Lainey. I think the combo has put me off both names!

SummerMonths · 29/01/2016 17:47

The grandmother's middle name was Alice which is already one of our older daughter's names. Although we didn't consciously name Alice after her great grandmother.
