Just that really.... How would you rank these names?

Just to reiterate that Lainey is DH's grandmother's name. On her birth certificate it was Lainey. Not Helena or Elaine.

Nina. Such a lovely name, and underused.

Dont like any of the rest at all.

Meeep · 29/01/2016 20:46

Would you like Helena or Elaine more than Lainey though? Maybe as a compromise?
(Personally I don't really like naming a baby after someone else, not sure why, I would prefer it as a middle name to honour the relative really.)

ashesandfire · 29/01/2016 21:34

Love Nina! Followed by Margot. Evelyn is a bit boring IMO. Lainey is OK but sounds a bit too nicknamey for me

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/01/2016 21:37

Nina. Love
Lainey Love
Margot. It's okay
Evelyn. Don't like it sorry. Its too harsh

Stephieee · 29/01/2016 22:20

Evelyn
Nina
Margot
Lainey

MissAlabamaWhitman · 29/01/2016 22:31

Nina is fab, classic, ageless, unusual.

Margot is becoming ubiquitously try hard: read popular.

Evelyn is fine but nothing remarkable.

I could grow to like Lainey. On the right person. It's one of those difficult to encompass names.

Glittermud · 29/01/2016 22:33

I adore margot and wish I'd used it Smile

MistressMerryWeather · 29/01/2016 22:35

I love them all equally. Hyphenate and use them all!

Great choices.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 29/01/2016 22:36

You won't in ten years glitter.

Trust me, it's got Amelia written all over it.

JingsAndCrivens · 29/01/2016 22:42

There were only 104 Margots born in 2014. It's hardly on an Amelia trajectory just yet! Some names are mentioned on MN a lot but it doesn't mean they're used a lot in real life.

dlnex · 29/01/2016 22:44

Evelyn
Nina
Lainey (never heard of it)
Margot (seriously?)

MissAlabamaWhitman · 29/01/2016 22:52

A lot can happen in a decade Jings.

There aren't many fifteen year old Lilys, ten year old Amelias or even five year old Elodies.

I reserve my judgement Wink

ample · 29/01/2016 22:54

Evelyn - pure classic
Margot & Lainey (tied) - both classic with a twist.
Nina - Nina & the Neurons spring to mind. Not the worst association though.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 29/01/2016 22:57

Lainey
Nina

Evelyn

Margot

(Autocorrect still changes margot to maggot. And now marmot...)

Lainey is sweet and unusual. Nina feels a bit old, but still sweet and easy to say/write.

Eve-lyn/ ev-lyn/ ever-lyn has too many variants. I always read it as eve-lyn as I only know one, and that's how she says it.

Margot. Are you French?

LentilStew · 29/01/2016 22:57

Evelyn is lovely but unfortunately they often end up as Evie. I also liked Eleanor when pg but couldn't get around the Ellie nn.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 29/01/2016 22:59

Oh Lentil, every Eleanor (under ten) that I know of goes by Nora.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 29/01/2016 23:01

Alabama...

There are round here!

We know 3 Lily's. 14,14 and 15.

Amelias aged 14, 12,11 and 11. And 4...

No Elodies though. Might have to wait for dd to start school for that 'treat'

JingsAndCrivens · 29/01/2016 23:01

Now I don't mean to be a geek but there were........

1368 15 Lilys born in 2001

2907 Amelias born in 2006

187 Elodies born in 2011 (and even currently that name is still way outside the Top 100)

But yes a lot can happen in a decade and a name can go from obscure to mega popular for loads of reasons.

JingsAndCrivens · 29/01/2016 23:01

That should say '1368 Liliys'

Xalyshiax · 29/01/2016 23:02

Evelyn is my favourite out of them all.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 29/01/2016 23:05

Is it geographical supposedly?

I know four Margots under two.
Six Elodies of six and under.

All the Amelias I know are aged four-nine

Lilys are aged 8-13.

I do believe Margot will become more popular in the next decade, perhaps I was hyperbolic to compare it to Amelia.
It's rising popularity still deserves consideration imho though.

LentilStew · 29/01/2016 23:06

Oh Nora is lovely and I could definitely have lived with that. It was just the Rloie thing and visions of her being called Ellie H for ever more.

LentilStew · 29/01/2016 23:07

Just the Ellie thing.

JingsAndCrivens · 29/01/2016 23:08

I loved Elsa, thought it was such a cool name. Not too popular, not too wacky. And then along came Frozen.....................
