Evelyn ..
Do you say Eve-Lyn or Ever-Lyn.
Where are you from?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Two syllable Ev-lin for girls (I'm in Scotland and never heard it pronounced any other way) and Eve-lin for Mr .Waugh. I've never known any other male of the name, but I'd probably presume Eve-lin too if I did.

SecretlyChartreuse · 15/11/2015 23:03

Ev-lyn if Irish girl
Eve-er-lyn if English boy

nickelbabe · 15/11/2015 23:03

Not sure actually.

I say eev-lyn waugh (or war if we're doing pronunciation )
But perhaps ev-e-lyn for a female.

I don't know!

SecretlyChartreuse · 15/11/2015 23:03

Lancashire if we're putting regions.

Potterwolfie · 15/11/2015 23:16

I'd normally say Eve-el-yn but friends in US say Ever-lyn which I think is much prettier.

PinkSquash · 15/11/2015 23:21

Eve-lyn

Knitella · 15/11/2015 23:22

Ev-lyn is the norm where I live (Scotland).

Shebangsthedrumsshedoes · 15/11/2015 23:30

I say Ev ah lyn

stitchglitched · 15/11/2015 23:33

Ever-lin, its my DD's name. From East Anglia.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 16/11/2015 01:21

Ev-er-Lin.
Why are you considering this name?
If so how do you want it pronounced?
If you have a preference emphasise the spelling eg
If you want to pronounced Eve-Lin spell in Evelyn
If you want it pronounced Ev-a-Lin
Spell it Evalyn.

Janey215 · 16/11/2015 07:05

Ever-Lynn - east midlands

throckenholt · 16/11/2015 10:04

Eve-lin - my grandmother (born 1919), London - it is what I grew up with.
Commonly known as Eavie.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2015 10:06

Ever-lyn

South London.

I've heard Eve-lyn and Ev-Lyn though.

Ihatechoosingnames · 16/11/2015 10:08

I have a baby Evelyn and we pronounce it "Ev-ah-lin" but if you say it quickly its like "Ev-lyn." Some people pronounce it "Eve-lyn" it's 50/50 round here (though I do much prefer my pronunciation obviously!)

CoraPirbright · 16/11/2015 22:08

Eve-lyn. Am in the home counties.

Evelyn Waugh was married to a female Evelyn and their friends referred to them as Hevelyn (he) and Shevelyn (she)!!

Clueing4looks · 16/11/2015 22:18

Ev-El-In. I've known 2 in my lifetime - one from Jamaica and the other from Dorset, both pronounced this way.

Iwasbornin1993 · 16/11/2015 22:19

Ever-lyn - my OH's DGM is called Evelyn and that is how she pronounces her name. We're in the NW.
