Do you say Eve-Lyn or Ever-Lyn.
Where are you from?

Ever-lyn is my natural pronounciation but I know an eve-lyn too

Fizrim · 15/11/2015 19:47

I'd say Eve-lyn (and there are two girls in my DD's year at school that pronounce it this way) but one of the teachers says Ev-lyn.

I'm originally from the NW.

StubbleTurnips · 15/11/2015 19:49

Ev-Lyn if referring to someone female.

Eve-Lyn for someone male.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 15/11/2015 19:51

Ev-a-lyn (it is DD's name - she prefers to shorten it to Ally).

I'm originally from Yorkshire, but currently living in East Anglia.

Treesandbees · 15/11/2015 19:53

Ever-lyn. I'm from Surrey originally but have lived in Bristol many years so may affect my twang!

BatmanLovesGhoulies · 15/11/2015 19:55

Eve-lyn

East Anglia

Bohemond · 15/11/2015 19:55

Agree with turnips
Eve lyn for a man as in Waugh
Ever lyn for a woman

Fermin · 15/11/2015 19:56

Eve-lyn is the male pronunciation of the name (as in Evelyn Waugh), Ever-lyn is female

Fermin · 15/11/2015 19:56

Cross post!

PattyPenguin · 15/11/2015 19:58

Eev-uh-lyn, always, in my youth when it was a not uncommon name - Shropshire/Wales border.

Wolfcub · 15/11/2015 19:59

Ever-lyn

Enkopkaffetak · 15/11/2015 20:05

I have in my years known 1 Eve Lyn 1 Ev Lyn and 1 Ever lyn

So I pronounce it the way they want it pronounced.

Lonelynessie · 15/11/2015 20:06

Ev-lyn. London.

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 15/11/2015 20:06

Either Ev-lyn or Eve-lyn depending on how the particular owner of the name pronounced it.

I've never heard the Ever-lyn version.

BathshebaDarkstone · 15/11/2015 20:07

I'd pronounce it Ev-lyn.

DickDewy · 15/11/2015 20:07

I have an aunt Evelyn, pronounced Ev-lyn.

var123 · 15/11/2015 20:07

Ev-lyn (Scotland)

ForChina · 15/11/2015 20:08

I'd never pronounce it with an 'r' sound in the middle but a soft 'h'. Like 'Ev-eh-lynn'. Don't like Eve-lynn as it sounds like a mispronunciation to me.

SurlyCue · 15/11/2015 20:08

Ev-lyn. There is no r in it

TrulySweet · 15/11/2015 20:08

Ev-lyn for a girl

Ev-lyn for a boy

SE here

Hulababy · 15/11/2015 20:09

Only ever known it to be pronounced Eve-lyn

Shakerlackerboomboom · 15/11/2015 20:10

It's actually my name: born in Sheffield now live in south coast and have Always had people call me Eve-Lyn.
It was my Grandmothers same and always has been said the same

Sadmother · 15/11/2015 20:13

I say Ev-uh-Lyn (very short uh sound that is barely there)
Evelyn Waugh was pronounced Eve-Lyn though, so I always think of Eve-Lyn being the male version.

hefzi · 15/11/2015 20:15

I'm with the others who differentiate based on sex- Eve-lyn for men; Ever-lyn for women (SE too)

cashewnutty · 15/11/2015 20:16

Ev-lyn for me (Scotland)
