I love the M theme! I also love Maggie , Mabel is not my cup of tea at all

Kiplinghoover · 28/07/2015 16:58

I love Martha. I'm most annoyed dd was born in a time Martha would have been widely out of place (all shannons, Chloe, Laura, Emily, Beth, Jasmines etc in her year ) Sad

Kiplinghoover · 28/07/2015 17:01

My Mum would have been furious if I called dd Maggie Grin. staunch miner grandparents

Slothlorian · 28/07/2015 17:11

I love both those names.
Also Martha
My dd is Maeve.
I obviously like M!

LeoandBoosmum · 28/07/2015 17:28

I really dislike Mabel (makes me think of old ladies and lavender) and Maggie (can't disassociate from Thatcher). Esme is really lovely and I agree with others that all 'M' names seems a tad contrived and twee.
I thought I would suggest Emily as a possibility.

Mabel

Cloggal · 28/07/2015 19:39

Slothlorian, Maeve and Martha are my favourite girl names, impeccable taste Wink

MargoReadbetter · 28/07/2015 19:41

Mabel

fruitpastille · 28/07/2015 20:42

Sorry, Maggie makes me think Thatcher. And Mabel sounds weak to me.
If you really want M then Madeleine/Maddie?? I like Esme a lot from your list.

kaftanlady · 28/07/2015 21:24

Esme by a country mile!

Maggie as the full name sounds like you named her after the Simpsons or Thatcher.

Not keen on Mabel , or three M names.

Esme is beautiful :)

AmericasTorturedBrow · 29/07/2015 06:34

I have a Maggie so that has my vote

Enchufla · 29/07/2015 06:56

Mabel is not a particuarly nice name. I do love the Miriam suggestion

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 29/07/2015 08:02

fyi-when they meet an adorable funny bright little girl called Maggie, no one EVER thinks Thatcher. Fact.

Goodbyemylove · 29/07/2015 08:51

Well the only famous Maggie I can think of is Thatcher so I don't agree with you at all muddha.

I don't like it anyway. It sounds harsh and dated.

Goodbyemylove · 29/07/2015 08:53

I know a family of M names, all girls, and I struggle to remember which one is which.

I have a Maggie - MIL said as in Thatcher (MIL was Hon Member of NUM) - ONCE - DH sternly said and yes that's the last time you'll say that.

It hadn't occured to us, she was 6 days old and we were delirious and so fed up with no name we just chose it (it is hypenated with another name but rarely used - am already worried am outed)

The only other Maggie's we've come across are adults older than me, and they are usually Margarets. She loves having an unusual name

thatsshallot · 29/07/2015 12:19

I wanted Maude as it went but is DM's middle name and there's been enough politics over family names (DS2s middle name is Norman poor thing) so we couldn't use it

I always assume parents of Maggies are Tories. Fact.

CheerfulYank · 30/07/2015 02:02

I have a Margaret called Maggie (or Maggie Rose) and she is hilarious and adorable and um..."spirited". :o I'm American though, so don't have Thatcher connotations.

I also like Mabel :)
