Love Mabel! It's a beautiful name!

aimees75 · 27/07/2015 22:24

Mabel is very granny chic, not keen. I prefer Maggie. You could call her Margaret and nn Peggy and that way you stick with the M theme in one sense but baby gets a non-m name. Also Peggy is quite sweet

mytothername · 28/07/2015 07:50

Mabel

CrispyFern · 28/07/2015 11:06

Mabel is lovely.

Cloggal · 28/07/2015 12:02

I like Martha :) and Margo!
I'd probably break M theme too, Esther is a great suggestion - though Esme still has a clear M sound without having it as an initial.

Hellion7433 · 28/07/2015 12:31

Maeve and Maude are nice too

Hellion7433 · 28/07/2015 12:38

Something like violet or Ada rose Tess Edith would be good

AndNowItsSeven · 28/07/2015 12:49

Maggie, I love Maggie although I would go with Magdalena. However Mabel is also very cute.

Blinkinwinkin · 28/07/2015 12:52

Mabel is a gorgeous name. Also love Martha and Margo. Maggie too Tory for me too!

Inarightpickleandchutney · 28/07/2015 13:04

What about margot?
Prefer Mabel

NadiaWadia · 28/07/2015 13:15

To be honest, neither of them are great, your older DDs' names are much nicer. Mabel out of the two I'd say (even though it has a strong old-lady vibe) because Maggie has quite a harsh sound, also it is a nickname really, not a complete name.

There are much nicer names beginning with 'M' out there!

Sorry, but to me mabel is, and always will be, a cow. Not an association I'd want for my daughter.

I also agree with others and find the m theme twee

Love esme though.

HerdOfRhino · 28/07/2015 13:53

I like Mabel.

How about Margot?

In all honesty though, if it were me, I would break the M theme. It makes me think of the Duggars.

Ausflug · 28/07/2015 13:56

I think the M thing is a bit twee too. It reminds me of a relative's Irish catholic family, where all the sisters had the same first name (Mary). I think there was Mary Anne, Mary Margaret, and I can't remember the 3rd, but they were known as Molly, Maggie and Minnie, and always hated it.

I think if Matilda always goes by "Matilda", I wouldn't go for another M, and if she shortens it to Matty then doubly definitely not Maggie. But if she is usually Tilly or something like that then another M might be OK.

I prefer Maggie to Mabel, but only as short for something longer - Margaret or Magdalena.
I wouldn't like to be called Mabel myself, but think I could carry off Maggie. Though I suppose I am a generation away, Mabel is less old fashioned for a new baby than a 30 something.

HenriettaTurkey · 28/07/2015 14:54

If it has to be M then Maya/Maia and Marguerite are lovely.

But Esme is great and 3 Ms is a bit much...

HenriettaTurkey · 28/07/2015 14:54

Also Miriam (Mim)

Dontloookbackinanger · 28/07/2015 14:59

Love Mabel!

Shapebandit · 28/07/2015 15:04

Spydra · 28/07/2015 15:14

Mabel - and a nickname of May

scrivette · 28/07/2015 15:16

Mabel is lovely.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 28/07/2015 15:54

I had a friend (grown up) and she and her four sisters were all MM. It was ADORABLE

Don't break the M theme!
