Too much? Suggestions welcome, brain is mince just now.
Like short, less traditional names but nothing too out there.

Unfortunately brutal honesty is what you get when people don't know there's a back story or particular feelings to be hurt.

No one meant to deliberately upset you I'm sure, but at least it would prepare you for the things people would likely say about the name out of your earshot.

Don't set yourself up to be upset Flowers

Willilovethisbabyasmuchasmydog · 27/03/2015 20:50

Read the responses, I can understand why she was annoyed. Someone slagging the spelling of her surname and another saying it's the worst name they've heard.

CultureSucksDownWords · 27/03/2015 20:52

Isn't this why you shouldn't ask for feedback on a name you're very likely to actually use? I can't see there's much point in asking for people's thoughts on a name and then getting huffy when they're not as positive as you hoped.

Salmotrutta · 27/03/2015 20:57

Aww. Blush

I'm really pleased you liked Robyn OP.

I think it sounds really lovely and distinctive with your surname.

imissbeingclean · 27/03/2015 20:58

I'm not expecting everyone to agree with me but I just didn't like the taking the piss of a surname?! Thought it was obvious it was a sn but maybe not. Let us leave this be. Might just divorce my husband and get my original surname (diamond) back. True love to sacrifice that name :(

OP posts:
squoosh · 27/03/2015 21:04

You gave up the surname Diamond?

Madness OP! Smile

(Rainny is perfectly nice too......but Diamond!)

Salmotrutta · 27/03/2015 21:07

There's absolutely nothing wrong with your surname OP!

I didn't quite understand why people thought it was odd/strange.

I have a universally disliked first name (on MN) and a very different surname (maiden name) which was always mispronounced, made fun of etc.

I get quite hurt when I see people on here slagging off my first name tbh.

It's taken me years and years to accept it (think old fashioned and not "pretty").

Nothing at all wrong with your rather lovely sounding surname!

imissbeingclean · 27/03/2015 21:17

I don't mind Rainny at all. Need to stop posting on the name sections as people are so opinionated/rude with names.
My own name is slagged off often too, Salmo, not to worry. It doesn't offend me so who cares x

Miles better if Rainny is a surname. I thought you just fancied yourself as a hippy. To quote Friends, 'Hi my name is Rain. I have my own kiln and my dress is made out of wheat.'

Wren doesn't work with it, but Robyn is ok.

FizzyGood · 27/03/2015 22:08

Oh you could have double barrelled! Rainny-Diamond is lovely Grin

squoosh · 27/03/2015 22:10

Rainny-Diamond is so glam. She'd be born wearing a mink.

GatoradeMeBitch · 27/03/2015 22:10

I think people were laughing at the name as a double barreled first name choice. It's a lovely surname!

GatoradeMeBitch · 27/03/2015 22:13

OMG, bring back Diamond! (Your daughter may well nab it for herself when she gets older anyway!)

Or, maybe consider that as a first name? Diamond Rainney - Di for short? I seem to remember that that was how Miranda and Steve got around the 'whose name' quandary in Sex and the City, they used his surname as the first name, hers for second Smile

benchmark · 28/03/2015 04:06

I think you should get Wren in there somewhere as it means so much to you. If I were you I'd have Robyn Wren Diamond Rainny. It's a lot of R's but the Diamond breaks it up and keeps your surname in the mix and you get to have Wren. Alternatively double barrel your surname Smile you have lots of options op!

Instituteofstudies · 28/03/2015 04:34

If you had made it clear in your OP that Rainny was your surname, it would have helped. I thought Rainny was either the middle name or double barreled with Wren.

Willilovethisbabyasmuchasmydog · 28/03/2015 07:16

I thought about keeping diamond but my dad had just had an affair while mum was dying so I was happy to chuck it. Cut my nose of to spite my face..

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 28/03/2015 07:32

People were not being mean about your surname, they just thought it was a made-up, misspelt middle name - as seems to be the trend at the moment.
Most people keep their anonymity on here and assumed it wasn't your surname.

Only1scoop · 28/03/2015 07:41

As It wasn't clear in your Op regarding surname etc as it's quite unusual. It's quite outing for a poster to give surname in an Op....let alone another surname they used to have.

DailyFailSideBarOfShame · 28/03/2015 07:50

oh as a surname it's absolutely fine. sorry if you thought people were having a dig at that - not at all. Lots of surnames are odd/unusual spellings.

I for one though Rainny was a made up first name!

NerrSnerr · 28/03/2015 07:56

People weren't having a go at Rainny as a surname, I also read it like it was a made up middle name.

I don't think you can call your child Wren Rainny, unless they become a weather girl.

DailyFailSideBarOfShame · 28/03/2015 07:59

They don't really flow together very well, sorry. Confused

Robyn Rainny sounds really cute though.

kelda · 28/03/2015 08:01

Rainny is a gorgeous surname, but Wren is possibly the worst combination unfortunately.

If you are looking for a tongue twister (and I would advise against that - you don't want your child to have difficulties saying their own name)

Rowan or Rowenna Rainny are pretty but I would go for a nature name that doesn't lead to a tongue twister:

Hazel Rainny
Willow Rainny

I very nearly suggested Skye...

VivaLeBeaver · 28/03/2015 08:02

Robyn works really well but have to agree that Wren and Rainey together is too much of a tongue twister.

DailyFailSideBarOfShame · 28/03/2015 08:05

Rowena Rainny? Shock Noooo…….even worse together than Wren!

VivaLeBeaver · 28/03/2015 08:07

Anyone else imagining Jonathan Ross trying to say these names.

Agree that Rowena is even worse.
