Too much? Suggestions welcome, brain is mince just now.
Like short, less traditional names but nothing too out there.

Wren is pretty and I don't dislike Raine but Rainny? Confused What kind of a weird spelling is that, with the superfluous extra n?

And together they just don't work at all.

DontdrinkandFacebook · 27/03/2015 13:46

Oh sorry, is Rainny your last name, or your proposed middle name? Confused

Salmotrutta · 27/03/2015 13:56

How about Robyn.

Robyn Rainney (I'm assuming Rainney is the surname)

NadiaWadia · 27/03/2015 14:00

I don't understand why 'wren' seems to have become a girls' name recently. I always thought it was just a small bird. I must have missed the memo, how long has it been considered a name?

Sorry but I honestly can't see what's particularly attractive about it, as a word, so why?

DontdrinkandFacebook · 27/03/2015 14:08

Well new names come into being all the time and so long as it's an actual noun or adjective that signifies something and not just some random made up bunch of letters then I don't see why it's a problem. It's no different to being called Dawn, Heather, Rose, Hazel, Scarlett, Willow, Eden, April, June, Summer, Sienna, Saffron, Patience, Hope, Faith.…..

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/03/2015 15:44

Nice names but not together, Not only do they not match but I'vd tried saying it my head and it sounds blardy ridiculous. T.B.P.H

Allstoppedup · 27/03/2015 15:47

Sorry...Still chuckling at Wren Rainny use an umbrella...

Wren is beautiful but with that surname unfortunately it does sound like the name of a weather girl in a comedy sketch...

NadiaWadia · 27/03/2015 17:35

But why? Why is it beautiful? The sound 'ren'? I'm not trying to pick an argument here, just genuinely bemused by the current popularity. I certainly don't think it's horrible, just a bit random! If people like it, that's fine and up to them of course. But I'd like to know what associations etc you are all getting from 'Wren', that I am obviously missing.

For instance, I could explain why I find 'Susannah' and 'Isabella' beautiful. (Not that anyone would be interested)

SoupDragon · 27/03/2015 18:30

Could it be, and this is just a thought, that people like different things...?

I don't hear Ren, I hear Wren. A picture in my head I guess.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2015 18:31

I don't think I would use it though, unless I could guarantee I was getting a small, delicate girl rather than a galumphing giant.

GerundTheBehemoth · 27/03/2015 18:43

Not all wrens are tiny. The giant wren is bigger than a starling.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 27/03/2015 18:55

While we're on the subject - I love Starling as a name (although in honesty I'd only be brave enough to use it as a mn)

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 27/03/2015 18:56

Starling Rainney

Sounds good actually Smile

Allstoppedup · 27/03/2015 19:03

I think it's beautiful because to me it summons a thought of a bird which I like and to me seems sweet and delicate.

I think it sounds pretty on the tongue, it can't really be shortened or changed to anything else.

I also, somewhere in the back of my mind have a strange connection with WW2 naval wrens which make it seem like a strong name as well.

Obviously that's my personal opinion though, people are different. I really dislike Susannah for example but that doesn't mean I would puzzle as to someone else's interpretation of it as beautiful.

MamaLazarou · 27/03/2015 19:44

I'm with Nadia. It doesn't sound like a name. If you're going to name a child after something from nature, a small brown bird is an odd choice.

imissbeingclean · 27/03/2015 20:36

Rainny is our surname. But many thanks for all the insults about it

OP posts:
GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/03/2015 20:39

I don't think they go together, sorry. Too much of a mouthful.

squoosh · 27/03/2015 20:40

Nothing wrong with your surname, it just doesn't go with Wren.

imissbeingclean · 27/03/2015 20:41

I purposely didn't answer back just to see how rude and tactless you lot can be. You did better than I thought. Fyi I wanted the name wren to honour my dead mother and unfortunately I didn't choose my surname.
Perhaps think before you speak or even better, if you haven't got anything nice (or diplomatic) to say.. Hope you're raising your kids with better manners than you have.
Thank you for the few nice comments though, I do like the suggestion of Robyn.

To be honest, there's little to be gained by testing people. It makes things easier (for you and everyone else) if just spell it out in the opening post.

Willilovethisbabyasmuchasmydog · 27/03/2015 20:45

I don't think op was testing.. I have done a similar post and people just don't think.

squoosh · 27/03/2015 20:47

Robyn Rainny actually sounds really nice. I like alliteration.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/03/2015 20:48

No one is/was insulting your surname OP.
You asked for opinions and you got them.
Don't stamp your feet and throw your rattle out of your pram because you were told the truth rather than what you want to hear.

Willilovethisbabyasmuchasmydog · 27/03/2015 20:49

I have a Robyn and an r surname. Taboo on mn but who cares :) it's lovely!

lemonyone · 27/03/2015 20:49

I'm sorry imbuingmissclean - but you asked outright if it was 'too much'!

It IS too much with both the names together - or at least in many people's opinion. There are too many 'R' noises going on so it sounds like a stutter. Robyn Rainney sounds much nicer however, possibly because it has two syllables echoing each other. In fact, that is a gorgeous name. I was tempted with Robin for my DD but my surname is a bit like "Large" so it sounded like a giant bird.
You didn't specify that your last name was Rainney, so I guess everyone thought that it was a middle name so it didn't go with Wren. It's actually a very nice surname.

I think the idea of honouring a dead parent is very sweet.
